Macy’s is on a mission to give more apparel options to Black sororities – a market that’s been historically underserved. Members of sororities Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and Sigma Gamma Rho attend events and conventions long after college, but finding the perfect dress or suit in the sororities’ specific color combinations is anything but easy. Luckily, Macy’s, in partnership with Kasper, is changing this with a line of apparel created just for these sororities.
The idea originated from 32-year-old WyQuasia King-Thomas, a director and buyer of day dresses who herself a Zeta. “We come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and curves, and I understand the challenges we face when shopping,” King-Thomas said in an interview with Bloomberg. “I know the need and the importance of this dress collection.”
Available in 200 of Macy’s 500 locations as well as online, the sororities will have at least five pieces per launch. The collection comes as part of the retailer’s effort to build racial diversity throughout the organization.
