For the longest time, Victoria Beckham subscribed to her Posh aesthetic—think lots of black (or at the very least, muted) outfits and a whole host of tailoring. Of course, these pieces still populate her wardrobe, but we have noticed that VB has been gradually introducing more colour into her outfits over the last couple of years. It might have started subtly, but now, even with public appearances becoming rare, when we do see her step out, she’s often sporting clashing, block colours in ways we wouldn’t have been able to predict a decade ago. And her latest look is a testament to just how experimental her style has become.

This week, for Saint Laurent’s A/W 22 runway show during Paris Fashion Week, it wasn’t David that VB had on her arm. Instead, she was accompanied by her son Romeo in what has to be one of the chicest mother-son dates in history. Now, I could break down Romeo Beckham’s ensemble, which, in case you were wondering, consisted of a sparkly, pastel-pink knit and acid-wash jeans—a combination that, on paper, shouldn’t work but Romeo was able to pull off. That’s those Beckham genes at play. As impressive as his look may have been, however, it was Victoria’s look that my colleagues and I couldn’t take our eyes off of.

She wore a bright-purple sweater tucked into red vinyl trousers, finished with matching stiletto heels and a spiky ‘90s bun, and to say this FROW-side look is a departure from her tailored trousers and blouses is an understatement. The trousers, which are from her namesake brand, instantly remind us of the red vinyl catsuit Britney Spears wore in her Oops!… I Did It Again music video. It turns out even VB isn’t immune to the Y2K comeback that’s sweeping fashion right now. What’s next? Spice Girl–worthy platforms? I can only hope!

Make no mistake. Victoria knows a good trend when she sees it, and vinyl textures are certainly having a moment right now. If you’re interested in re-creating her look for yourself, I’ve broken it down for you into shoppable pieces below. Then, continue on to shop my edit of the best vinyl buys on the market.
