For many people, winter is a season you just have to power through in order to get back to the summer months. However, I secretly love the excuse to cosy up in my favourite knitwear and embrace the joys of hibernation. This has been helped along by the fact that this season has so many good jumper options—the highlight of which has to be the humble cardigan.
Offering cropped, oversized, ribbed and cable-knit versions, high-street brands and designers alike have gone to town on this retro knit, making it so much more than a lowly layering device. Influencers, in particular, have been wearing theirs either with nothing underneath or with a light cami top, then adding a chunky chain necklace for a more polished finish. Suddenly, the cardigan has the credentials of an evening top.
I can’t scroll through Instagram without seeing at least one fashion lover clad in a cardi-and-chain combo, and after rigorous trialling myself, I can confirm it’s an unbelievingly easy look to re-create. I have personally enjoyed wearing my black SĂ©zane cardi on its own with a chunky gold chain and black trousers, but there are so many different ways to work this look.
