Twenty twenty-two is already proving to be the year of the trouser. Tailored and slouchy, cargo, low-rise, leather… You name it; people want to wear it. But one shape, in particular, is pulling ahead as the most popular trouser trend, and it’s unsurprising, really. Wide-leg trousers are the smart yet relaxed staple everyone from celebrities to our favourite influencers is wearing right now, and when you consider they’re comfy, chic and a really easy way to make an outfit look polished, it totally makes sense.
They’ve quickly become one of our most-wanted categories on Who What Wear, and all our friends—fashion or not—are asking us where to find the best ones. It helps that they’re extremely versatile. Trainers, boots, loafers—they all go with wide-legs, and since they’re inherently smart, you can pair them with any of the above, and they work for the office, running errands, fancy dinners, casual drinks and even weddings if you can find a matching jacket.

By now, you probably know we love turning to M&S for our elevated capsule basics—mainly for the guaranteed quality and great value—and its latest winning style is no exception to that rule.
The Crepe Drawstring Wide Leg Trousers have 215 reviews on-site (and counting), most often quoting things like “perfect!”, “well-made, comfortable and stylish,” “heavy material, hangs well and perfect to dress up or down” and “great value for money.” So, obviously, now we all want to try them. They come in five colours—the black, khaki and navy are wardrobe classics you’ll rely on year-round, but the pink and white feel so fresh for spring—and coming in at under £30, they’re hard to argue with.
