From chatting to friends and colleagues, it’s become clear to me that after a long 18 months of sequin-free dressing, many of us are keen to get glammed up for party season. Of course, this will manifest in different ways for different people. For some, it will be going all out with a minidress and statement accessories. For others, it will simply be putting on heels for the first time in over a year. Personally, I’ve loved the unexpected “high-low” approach that has been cropping up on Instagram recently, which has seen fashion lovers pairing traditionally casual styles with unmistakably party-ready buys.

I’m talking about sequinned tops with jeans, frothy frocks with track-sole boots and fancy midi skirts with logo tees. It speaks to my personal desire to want to feel comfy in a party outfit while still looking dressy, and I also enjoy the eclectic aesthetic that comes from mixing fashion genres. So before you dismiss this idea, allow me to show you six high-low party outfits that just might change your mind. Scroll down to see what I found.

Style Notes: Give your slip dress greater longevity by styling it with chunky boots and an oversized blazer. Cool-girl party dressing at its best.

Style Notes: You wouldn’t think that a floor-skimming dress would complement a logo tee, but it really does. Just add colour-pop accessories Ă  la Abi Marvel.

Style Notes: I love the dramatic bow on this Cecilie Bahnsen top, especially when it’s balanced out with a pair of tailored trousers and high-top sneakers.

Style Notes: This look might not be for everyone, but Pernille Rosenkilde makes a very good case for pairing a cute puff-sleeved top with trackie bottoms.

Style Notes: Get ahead of the crowd with an S/S 22 oversized bomber and style it with a smart skirt and heels this party season.

Style Notes: The nice-top-and-jeans pairing is an oldie but a goodie. This season’s interpretation is all about the mesh top, wide-leg denim and feathered heels.
