This year has already proven to be an unconventional one for us all, and the world of celebrity engagement rings is no exception. With over 20 engagements so far, each ring is beautiful in its own right and taps into some of the leading trends in the bridal jewelry world.
Megan Fox’s engagement ring features her own birthstone, an emerald, alongside Machine Gun Kelly’s, a diamond, in an east-west setting. Based on the ultimate love story, the custom Stephen Webster piece is far from traditional, and as MGK described on Instagram, it was intricately crafted to represent “two halves of the same soul” forming a heart.
Meanwhile, Simone Biles’s engagement ring from football player Jonathan Owens is all about the sparkle. Her oval-shaped diamond made its debut with the help of ZoFrost & Co. through a sentimental Valentine’s Day proposal. Biles has only continued to highlight the details, seemingly choosing her 25th birthday dress around the appearance of the ring and capturing it from all the best angles.
Other celebrities, like HyunA and Dawn, are shifting the standard for engagement rings. The K-pop stars both have matching opals on white-gold bands that are sprinkled with diamonds to signify their love. The chunky mood-ring aesthetic plays into the Y2K-inspired jewelry trend and proves that an engagement ring does not have to be classic. Designed by Seoul-based jewelry shop Diligems, these unique styles are the only rings of their kind, as owner Yueun Esther Shin promised on Instagram, revealing that Dawn worked on dreaming up the special pieces for over a month.
Finally, Jennifer Lopez’s long-awaited reunion with old beau Ben Affleck led to an intimate bathtub proposal, with Lopez now sporting a huge green-stone engagement ring just about everywhere she goes.
