Boots have become one of those items that are pretty much seasonless. True, sturdier and waterproof versions become very useful in the winter, but this type of shoe still has its place in the summer, too. This is why you’ll forgive us for talking about boot trends in the middle of 2021 before we’ve even hit autumn.Â
After considering trends from the spring/summer 2021 collections and the autumn/winter 2021 shows, you can see there are some key looks that are going to be around for the rest of the summer and for winter.Â
Below, there are three key looks we’ve identified from the whole year, which we’ve worn and will continue to wear for all of 2021. While there isn’t anything totally groundbreaking, what we like is that there are more joyful styles as well as boots that are wardrobe classics. Keep scrolling to see the three boot trends that have taken over 2021.
Isabel Marant spring/summer 2021 runway . For spring/summer 2021, the maximalist aesthetic is back—stripes, purples, pinks, metallics, and embellishments for the ultimate colourful cowboy boots. However, looking towards autumn/winter, the cowboy boots become more minimalist, such as the offering over at Celine.Â

Celine spring 2021 runway. Chunky boots aren’t going anywhere. While they were slightly pared back at Celine for the spring 2021 runway, over at Ganni (and plenty of other shows), the super-chunky lug sole is back for autumn. So don’t go dismissing this trend just yet. These boots are also great for wearing with your favourite summer frock for those British showers right now.Â

Balmain spring/summer 2021 runway. Yep, they’re back. After their brief hiatus, we can’t shake the impression that the style gods (aka the biggest fashion houses in the world) are signalling a return of spiky-toe boots. Seen at Balmain and over at Balenciaga, this is the trend that is a surprising wardrobe classic and very Y2K.
