I’ve Spent Hours Hunting Down the Best Sustainable Buys for Every Budget

September 02, 2021 at 07:00AM Sustainability is on the minds of everyone in fashion right now. For most of us, our consideration of where and how our clothes are made has only been heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic. In March last year, the fashion industry was completely turned on its head. London Fashion Week has mostly existed in a digital format for the past year. Saint Laurent also announced that it will no longer be taking part in the Paris Fashion Week schedule, preferring to dictate its own show timetable. Without the carbon footprint of a physical fashion week, this move to a more sustainable fashion industry is one I hope will continue. However, I have spent a lot of time researching and writing about sustainable fashion brands, and I know that while everyone wants to shop sustainably, the price can be a deterrent. For that reason, I’ve created a shopping list of…

“Subversive Basics” Are Trending, and They Will Transform Your Wardrobe

September 02, 2021 at 07:00AM “Subversive basics” is a term I recently stumbled upon, and my interest was immediately piqued. I love wardrobe classics but always enjoy making them feel more exciting, and subversive basics do just that—with a few caveats. The term, according to Refinery29, was coined by TikToker and trend hunter Agus Panzoni, who describes them as “basics that rebel up to the point of losing their utility.” Think cut-outs, sheer and keyhole features on white vest tops, black roll-necks, and classic cardigans. But I think they can go further than that. Oversized and non-fitted pieces and interesting denim silhouettes can also be considered as more “subversive.” And I’d go so far as to say that these pieces are still very useful. However, after falling down this microtrend rabbit hole, I now spot them everywhere. All over Instagram, some of my favourite stylish women have been doing the subversive-basics trend for…

10 New-In Autumn Buys I Really Love This Week

September 02, 2021 at 06:15AM Emma wears the Free People leather trousers from this week’s shopping picks, with a Shrimps cardigan and Essen pumps. As several stores shuttered over the past 12 months, the fashion industry faces huge challenges and strains that pose an inevitable threat to businesses. Many of us won’t be shopping in the same way right now, but even a like on Instagram or a message of support can provide a boost for these brands. I certainly don’t want anyone to feel like they have to buy more right now, but at the same time, after working in the fashion industry for nine years, I want to support the brands and pieces that I love and treasure. As an editor at Who What Wear, I typically spend a lot of time looking at new-in products, and so every week, I update this…

16 Standout Street Style Looks From Stockholm Fashion Week

September 02, 2021 at 06:12AM In the past few days, I’ve had the strong urge to pack away all of my summer clothes and jump head first into autumn. The weather feels like it’s turning, and with the beginning of September comes that “back to school” desire for tights, knits, boots and great outerwear. Although we’re still a few weeks away from the main four fashion capitals providing us with street style fodder, Stockholm’s runway shows are on right now, and the Scandi set are out in full force. As always, their quirky take on trends is a welcome addition to our saved folders. The editors, stylists, influencers and buyers in this chic city are aware of what’s new and now, but they’ll always adopt trends with a unique, less slavish twist, leaning into oversized silhouettes, casual accessories to make fancy clothes feel more laid-back and…

Of All the New Trends, Influencers Are Actually Wearing These 8

September 02, 2021 at 06:11AM When you think about it, influencers are a bit like interpreters. September 02, 2021 at 06:05AM & Other Stories has been an influencer favourite for quite some time. These days, it’s never a surprise when I scroll through Instagram and tap a photo only to learn the brand has been tagged, yet again, by a woman whose style I admire. I’m 5’1″, and These Are the Best Petite Autumn Picks I’ve Found

September 02, 2021 at 06:01AM As a petite woman, I often dread dressing for the cooler months. More layers usually equate to more trips to the tailor, as there’s always another billowing sleeve take up or trouser leg to hem. (Of course, I’ve discovered many a DIY hack in my time and can’t tell you how useful iron-on hemming tape can be when you’re in a bit of a rush.)However, this autumn, I’m attempting to keep my alterations to a minimum and instead invest in clothes that actually fit to begin with. As more and more petite-specific options become available, it’s easier to find items that not only fit my stature but also genuinely adhere to my personal style. Gone are the days of petite options being relegated to a small selection of jeans styles at Topshop. Now, plenty of brands exist that are catering…

10 Early 2000s Nail Trends We Kinda, Sorta Never Stopped Loving

September 02, 2021 at 06:00AM You might think Instagram sparked the golden age of manicures. But looking back, it turns out the early aughts walked so the 2010s could run. The new millennium started out with some late-’90s mall relics like frosted polish and French manicures but became more adventurous as time went on when Chanel’s gone-but-never-forgotten Black Satin polish hit the scene. And things just got more over-the-top from there. But like so many other nostalgic fashion and beauty trends, we suddenly want to wear them all over again. In fact, the biggest nail trends of 2021 are remarkably similar to those that took over 2001. To prove it, we’re taking a walk down manicure memory lane with Brittney Boyce, celebrity nail artist and founder of Nails of LA, and including ways to re-create the looks right this second. Best of all, the polishes…

These Instagram Hairstyles Are Making Us So Excited for Autumn

September 02, 2021 at 06:00AM Somehow, we blinked and autumn is very much on its way. And while summer is the season for lightening our locks and heat-proofing our hairstyles, the cooler months bring with them the option of a whole new wardrobe of hair accessories and less concern about humidity ruining our styles. We just won’t speak about the inevitability of all of that autumnal rainfall. When it comes to the best hairstyles for autumn, there are so many easy-to-do looks for every hair length and texture. We’re actually a little bit spoilt for choice, from swept-back buns to classic waves. Maintenance-wise, Headmasters artistic ambassador Sian Quinn has this advice: “To keep your hair in the best condition during the colder months, I would say it is so important to keep up with the moisturising treatments.”“The cold weather can be tough on your hair. Between the wind, rain, cold [and] indoor elements such as central…

Kendall, Bella and Hailey All Love This Controversial Trend—And I Do Too

August 16, 2021 at 12:00PM It’s a real feat of fashion design to be able to tread the line between uber-sass and sophistication. But Jacquemus somehow manages to pull it off season after season. Whether it’s cut-out skirts, fitted dresses or cropped shirts, there’s no escaping that his more revealing pieces still look chic. Part of the winning formula is to do with the way in which an outfit is styled but also I’d say that he often sticks to a more muted palette (with the exception of the bold pinks and oranges) and this gives the pieces a more demure sheen. This season, it’s the turn of the micro cardigan. Spotted on various celebrities—Kendall Jenner on the most recent Jacquemus runway as part of the La Montagne collection, Hailey Bieber out an about in L.A. and Bella Hadid outside the Jacquemus show—it’s suddenly become a…
