We’re Obsessed by These 5 Autumn Colour Trends

September 03, 2021 at 06:13AM It might only be the first week of September and, yes, summer wares may still line the shelves of our favourite high street stores, but we can’t help but notice that the new-in sections are slowly but surely being infiltrated by autumn pieces—from trans-seasonal jackets to sturdy boots—and we’re not going to lie, we’re pretty excited about it.There are a few colours that inevitably dominate every single autumn, however, there are some new additions that are set to make a splash this September. While last year everyone lost it over browns and khakis, this year it’s more about colour binaries: think lime green rubbing shoulders with burnt orange, and pale beige put into relief by fashion editor black (yes we know it’s not technically a colour but… fashion).Of course, we don’t like to be too prescriptive about these things, but if you think about it, giving a nod to a new season hue…

I Know Nothing About Beauty, But I Do Know These 15 Products Are Incredible

September 03, 2021 at 06:00AM I have to admit I am no beauty expert. I don’t really know the difference between salicylic acid and glycolic acid and have no idea how to do winged eyeliner. However, in my role as an editor, I have spent the past 10 years working with and sitting next to (pre-pandemic, of course) many impressive beauty editors who have pointed me in the direction of some amazing products. There are products that every single beauty editor I have worked with has told me to use (mainly the Elemis cleansing balm), and some of the discoveries have been samples they’ve asked me to test for them that I’ve stuck to ever since. These Tan-Luxe self-tan drops were recommended to me by a WWW editor, and they’ve quickly become an essential beauty product.I don’t mean to generalise here, but the thing I’ve learned about working with beauty editors is that they all…

7 Wardrobe Classics That Look So Much Better Secondhand

September 03, 2021 at 06:00AM For anyone who isn’t well acquainted with the world of vintage fashion, you would be forgiven for thinking that it’s a market solely dedicated to OTT prints, extraverted silhouettes, and eccentric styling. In my experience, it’s also a treasure trove of versatile, well-made wardrobe basics that act as the glue in my year-round capsule. I’m thinking tailored blazers, leather boots, and chunky knitwear that transcend seasonal trends and come with very reasonable price tags. Style, quality, and affordability? It’s a win-win situation. So if you’re looking for a few fresh fashion staples to kick off autumn 2021, why not give secondhand a try? It is Secondhand September after all. To get you started, I trawled some of my favourite vintage fashion sites (hello, Etsy and Rokit) to find some hard-working basics that will stand the test of time. Trust me. Once you go secondhand, you’ll find…

27 Low-Effort Ways to Remix Your Brown Hair

September 03, 2021 at 06:00AM Fellow brunettes, if you’re anything like me, you probably let your locks hibernate all winter, only to find yourself jonesing for a colour refresh come spring. This year, the occasion to apply some fresh colour feels even more merited—especially for those people out there who went sans-salon through the entire pandemic—which is why autumn’s arrival has me craving a colour touch-up. If you’re not quite ready to return to your high-maintenance highlights or all-around blonde from before times, we have the perfect alternate: balayage brown hair, a low-lift, high-reward colour placement option that will ease the transition from summer to autumn. For those who aren’t familiar, balayage started as an unfussy coda to 2013's ombré trend; one that hasn’t cooled down for the better part of a decade. To accomplish the natural, sun-kissed appearance of balayage, stylists hand-paint each strand with a sweeping technique, hence its moniker, which means “to sweep” in French. There’s a reason this hair-colour trend…

This Is What the High Street Is Getting Right This Autumn

September 03, 2021 at 06:00AM A couple of the Who What Wear editors and I were discussing the high street's A/W 21 trends the other day, and the main thing we noted was how similar they were to last year’s offering. And you know what? It really is a breath of fresh air. Scroll through any new-in category right now, and you’ll see plenty of cold-weather heroes starting to trickle in: puffer coats, chunky boots, crew-neck knits and clean-lined tailoring. The emphasis seems to be on classics over gimmicks and versatility over novelty. Has the concept of trends taken a bit of a bashing over the last 12 months? Undoubtedly, and it shows. So what does this mean for our relationship with the new season? Well, it simply means that there’s less of a chance that you’ll be craving large quantities of newness as, most likely, you’ll already have many of…

Everything You Need to Know About Choosing Your Wedding Perfume

September 03, 2021 at 06:00AM By all accounts, when I got married back in June 2018, it was a fairly laid-back affair—70 of our nearest and dearest crammed into an old London pub to watch my husband and I exchange wedding vows before a pie-and-mash dinner and a rather rowdy party. However, despite taking a laissez-faire approach to things like colour schemes, centrepieces and seating plans, there was one part of my day that I was determined would be extra special: my wedding perfume. Admittedly, it might seem a rather odd aspect of the day to obsess over, but as someone who loves perfume, I knew that I wanted a fragrance that would truly mark the occasion. I wanted a scent that I could smell in years to come that would still take me back to the most fun and joyous day of my life. And find it I did in the form…
