Top Hairstylists Have Spoken—These Are the Best Cuts for Every Face Shape

September 08, 2021 at 08:00AM Within the ever-colliding stratospheres of fashion and beauty, “rules” have become a bit passé, if not obsolete altogether. Gone are the days when we’d refuse to wear white after Labor Day or dismiss navy and black as an ill-conceived colour pairing. Currently, we feel inspired to dye our hair a demurely shocking shade of lavender. A hot-pink eyelid is cooler than yesteryear’s smoked-out cat eye, and we’re even experimenting with crystal-studded manicures and cute-but-clashing polish shades. Our point? It’s an exciting time to be in fashion and beauty, and more so than ever before, our hair, makeup and fashion aesthetic reflect that.Hair, especially, has been the comeback kid of 2021. Previously old-fashioned styles like the mullet have been artistically resurrected, and we currently own more scrunchies, hair claws and butterfly clips than we did circa 1999. Impressive. That said, one…

Arket’s Most Coveted Jumper Is Finally Back in Stock, and It Won’t Hang Around

September 08, 2021 at 07:07AM I don’t want to sound like a fashion cliché, but I think I’ve fallen in love with a jumper. To be fair, the pullover in question has all the attributes I’m looking for—it’s striped, loose-fitting and, crucially, looks way more expensive than it is. The piece I’m referring to comes from Arket and costs £69. The brand has reissued this jumper after similar versions sold out earlier in the year, and I (along with the rest of the Who What Wear team) have been waiting for this new drop ever since. It’s not really surprising that we’re all falling over ourselves for this high-street item considering it is very similar to the incredibly expensive Celine version, so this feels like a real bargain. This time, there are two versions for us to choose from: a blue jumper with white stripes and a white jumper…

I’m a Fashion Editor and This Is the One Pair of Tights I Swear By

September 08, 2021 at 06:42AM Now that summer is almost over, our thoughts are turning to winter. And while we admittedly spend far too much time thinking about layering, now autumn is finally here, it’s time to thing about replenishing certain wardrobe items that keep us warm and dry. There’s one thing, however, I never think to renew and that’s my tights collection. Despite wearing them probably every other day over the colder months, when it comes to autumn I always seem to settle for my year’s old hosiery that looks and feels like it’s about to pop a hole every time I put them on. Shopping for tights is hardly enjoyable, is it?However, the reality is we live in the UK, and having a good quality pair is essential all year round (yes, even in summer). Well, not only are tights back on the radar as a fashion…

This “Old” Trend Is Suddenly So Popular Again

September 08, 2021 at 06:09AM Social media has changed the rapidity of trends. Traditionally, new trends would start and end with each passing season. Now, however, with the world at our fingertips, trends can be borne quite literally overnight. All it takes is for a celebrity to upload a snap of their latest outfit or an influencer their new purchase, and you’ve got the fashion equivalent of a domino effect. As such, it takes something pretty special to withstand the turnover, which makes what we’re going to discuss today all the more impressive indeed.Bouclé is a trend that’s lasted not just a year, not just a decade, but over sixty years. The fabrication, woven from a specific type of looped wool yarn and derived from the French term for “ringed” or “curled”, has become synonymous with high-end style. And though it has been used to…

Everyone’s After a Piece From This Joyful Scandi Brand, and It’s Selling Like Cr

September 08, 2021 at 06:06AM There are certain fashion brands that have happiness baked into their very soul, and we’ve never before needed that kind of contribution to our wardrobes as much as we do now. The reason why I felt it was time to highlight one Danish label in particular is because my current morning routine goes a little something like this: *Opens up Instagram, sees something joyful, instantly knows it’s Stine Goya.* Influencer Trine Kjaer wearing a Stine Goya dressStine Goya is the smile-inducing, Insta-friendly brand that I feel has been the most buoyant fixture over the past 18 months. Perhaps, the DNA with which it is built upon has made it stand out even more during these strange, sombre times. Many designer lines now blend into a singular, homogenous mass, with repetitious trends, obvious pieces, colours and prints running across them all, but there’s something about Stine Goya that feels separate…

The Chunky Boot We Predict Will Be Big This Autumn

September 08, 2021 at 06:00AM The prevailing theme for AW21’s hottest boot trend can be summarised as thus: Bigger is most definitely better. Over the course of 2019 and 2020 track soles and combat boots crept (or rather stomped) their way into the wardrobes of fashion’s best-dressed but, not to be content with half-measures, it seems as though this year the chunky boot is taking a step up. Please be upstanding for the chunky knee-high boot. Bottega Veneta was one of the first brands to make a case for the XXL, knee-high silhouette, sending a statement-making, biker-inspired boot down its AW19 runway. Others quickly followed suit, but wasn’t until this year that the taller iterations started to compete with the classic chunky Chelsea boots and lace-ups. Now the high-street has jumped on the bandwagon, with the likes of Arket, & Other Stories, and even M&S (yes really), offering up their own spin on the knee-high chunky boot. Styling-wise,…

Trust Me—These Lipstick Colours Will Be Everywhere This Autumn

September 08, 2021 at 06:00AM When I say that my excitement for autumn knows no bounds, I’m not exaggerating. My stomach practically does summersaults thinking about cosy knitwear, festive drinks and—my favourite of all—autumnal makeup looks. Specifically when it comes to lipstick. My go-to makeup look in the colder months is usually a browny-orange shadow on the eyes with something shimmery on top, a simple sweep of highlighter across my cheekbones and a dark lip to finish it all off. Whether it’s a dark vampy red or a deep berry tone, it’s probably already in my lipstick collection—and that collection really comes into its own during the autumn months. And I’m not alone in my love of seasonal lipsticks. Most of the makeup brands that I swear by offer up a plethora of autumnal lipstick options for my favourite season—from sheers to mattes, there really is something for everybody and…

Don’t Fight It: This Y2K Jeans Trend Is Officially Back

September 08, 2021 at 06:00AM People got really hyped up about Y2K. It was the turn of the century, you could finally listen to that Prince song and mean it, plus there was a lot of talk how there was a computer bug that was going to turn everything off at the stroke of midnight as our PCs wouldn’t be able to understand the switch from 1999 to 2000. While programming disasters were (mostly) averted, I can’t say the same for fashion. Y2K fashion is a particular sort of era—sure, it was a simpler time when people could still wear jeans or a nice-top-and-trousers to a red carpetevent but there were fedora hats, Juicy Couture trackies and lots of pointy-toe heels that everyone seemed to wear with bootcut jeans (shudders). The thing is Y2K trends are booming. Thanks to Gen Z, who didn’t experience…
