The Up-and-Coming It Brands NET-A-PORTER Is Backing for 2021

September 29, 2021 at 06:00AM It’s fair to say that it’s not an easy time to be a young designer, entering a market that has been crippled by the effects of a global pandemic. Yet perhaps one of the few silver linings of the last 18 months is that the fashion industry has had a moment to reflect and realise that the way it had been operating was not the most sustainable. While many big brands have taken steps in the right direction, it’s been smaller labels that have had the dexterity and entrepreneurial spirit to build companies with sustainability at their core. The brands in NET-A-PORTER’s Vanguard program class of 2021 are the perfect encapsulation of this. The future of fashion has arrived. A brilliant scheme that celebrates new designers and highlights their stories and the diverse creative communities around them, the Vanguard edit is not only a way to support…

I Usually Skip Face Powders, But This Is the Glowiest One I’ve Ever Tried

September 29, 2021 at 06:00AM As I am an oily-skinned person, you’d think that I’d be obsessed with face powders. After all, their very purpose is to mattify skin, increase the longevity of makeup and basically keep all of that excess oil at bay until mid-afternoon at least. However, despite being absolutely devoted to face powder as a teenager (honestly, who knows howmany Rimmel Clear Complexion Powders I went through in the early noughties), face powder has been pretty much non-existent in my daily makeup routine for the last few years. After talking to friends and family, it would seem that I’m not alone in ditching it.The obvious answer to our resistance to mattifying powders is that the last decade has seen an influx of skin-first makeup brands and formulations encouraging all of us to embrace our natural skin texture and tone and focus on glow rather than coverage. Brands like Glossier and Milk…

These 8 Mango Pieces Are Destined to Reach Cult Status, so I Gave Them a Try

September 29, 2021 at 06:00AM We're approaching the onset of autumn, which means one thing—I’m working on a new-season wardrobe refresh. While I can’t get enough of summer fashion and all of the swimsuits and sandals it entails, I always get excited when autumn hits. Layers are back, boots are back, and I get inspired to start dressing for the crisp days ahead. This time around, I’m getting a head start by test-driving some pieces from Mango. A favourite retailer among fashion insiders, it designs great affordable items that always reach cult status. The brand’s offerings always end up selling out, and it’s easy to see why. The pieces hit on classic shapes but also hit on the current trends. While I love shopping online, I find it challenging at times to really know if something is worth the purchase. Sometimes, the fit can be off, or the fabric isn’t what…

Wait, so Every IG Outfit I Love Comes From This Affordable Brand?

September 29, 2021 at 06:08AM I’m often asked what the best part of my job is, which is a pretty tough question when you love what you do. But if I had to choose just one thing, I’d have to say it’s discovering new and up-and-coming brands. There’s just something about happening upon a generally unknown label that feels so rewarding, especially when I get to share it here with you. Of course, in the day and age of social media, boutique brands have the potential to hit the big time practically overnight, so you need to act fast if you want to get in on the action before it goes mainstream. And of all the brands I’ve seen lately, none have the potential to be as stellar as Source Unknown.I’d noticed a couple of influencers tagging Source Unknown on their Instagram wares a couple of…

Knitwear, leather, denim on denim, chunky boots—the fashion potential that autumn unlocks never fails to give us a thrill and we’ve been busy shaping what we want our style to look like for the upcoming season for weeks. In doing so, however, we’ve realised that we have some holes in our line-up that could do with filling. From knitwear that’s starting to look past its sell-by to coats that don’t boast quite the same silhouette as they did a few years previously, chances are you may find a few key items in your autumn fashion arsenal need updating, too. And where better to look for these pieces than the Great British high-street? Anne-Victoire Lefevre…

The Small Detail That Will Make Your Autumn Outfits Look Unique

September 29, 2021 at 06:00AM I’ve never been that keen on the idea of a microtrend, and while I understand the desire to separate niche styles from those more mainstream, seasonal blockbusters, it can sometimes denote a sense of transience. Essentially, it can be seen as a trend that is even more fleeting due to its specificity. But I beg to differ. For example, I enjoyed the odd nod to traditional sailor uniforms in the A/W 21 collections of Miu Miu, Dior and See by ChloĂ©. No, it hasn’t exploded in seven different colourways on the high street (well, not yet anyway), but it was a small detail that spoke to me, and when I’ve seen it championed by other fashion folk, it’s put a smile on my face. Recognisable by its wide lapels and square back panel, the sailor collar was a popular style in the 1980s, often spotted in…
