7 Boot Trends the High Street Has Downright Nailed for Winter

December 08, 2021 at 06:01AM When it comes to boots—actually, all shoes—I always tend to buy them from the high street. Being as hard on shoes as I am (something that, even though I’m a 32-year-old adult, my mum still has to tell me off for), investing in super-premium footwear just isn’t a wise investment for me. Still, I never feel like I’m missing out, as the high street reliably manages to tick off all the biggest trends in swift succession to the runway. So I never feel behind. That said, this winter, I feel like the high street’s lapping the designers with its offering of excellent boots, which has been growing stronger by the week since October. Sya wears a pair of tan track-sole boots from Zara. Now that we’re fully immersed in the depths of winter, now is the time to update your boot collection, if you…

H&M’s Showstopping Party Drop Is Here, and I Tried On the Best Pieces

December 08, 2021 at 06:00AM If I had to summarise H&M’s latest limited-edition capsule in three words, they would have to be these: big party energy. Voluminous tulle! Sequin-strewn minis! Giant-bow tops! A collection for shrinking violets, this is not that. Coming under the headline of the Circular Design Story, this H&M collection focuses on high-octane partywear made from innovative materials and designed with versatility in mind. Think blazers that can be worn as both dresses and jackets, adjustable-width trousers and ball gowns that come apart in two pieces. I wouldn’t exactly describe this collection as wearable, but if you’re looking for a party look that’s going to turn heads and light up your Instagram feed, then this is the one for you. I got the chance to try on my favourite pieces from the collection, and there really are some gems in there. At the top…

19 Free People Pieces I Love This December

December 08, 2021 at 06:00AM Free People is always one of my favourite high-street destinations for unusual or statement pieces that you won’t see everyone else wearing. For this reason, the brand really stands out when it comes to event dressing. It might have a reputation for festival outfits, but I find that its party selection is just as strong. Whether you like to dress like you’ve been dipped in glitter or want to opt for something a little more subtle, there are lots of amazing party options at Free People. One of the best party items I’ve ever bought is an emerald-green velvet blazer, and Free People has a beautiful double-breasted style in a rich green. I also love the classic black tuxedo jacket and the velvet mini dress with ruched detail across the front. I love the silver satin trousers and the sequin high-necked tops, which can…

From Zara to M&S: 30 High-Street Jewellery Pieces That Honestly Look Luxury

December 08, 2021 at 05:56AM I’ve admittedly become a bit of a snob when it comes to jewellery. After years of wearing statement gemstone necklaces which didn't last long before the “jewels” began to fall out and cocktail rings which, yes, enviably made my skin green, I swore off cheap jewellery and instead began saving up for higher-quality pieces. I don’t have a flush budget by any means, but for every 10 bits of affordable jewellery I passed on, I was able to put whatever I saved towards something, at the very least, gold-plated. High-street jewellery, however, has come a long way since then, and I’m incredibly impressed at what I’ve seen on offer this season.Although I’m sure it’s unintentional, the high street appears as if it has made a collective effort to refine its jewellery offering. Everywhere I turn, from Arket and Marks and Spencer to Zara and Jigsaw, jewellery keeps…

These 12 Fringe Hairstyles Are Making Me Want to Cut My Hair Short

December 07, 2021 at 08:00AM I have spent the past six years growing my hair back to waist length after I had a funny five minutes and decided to chop it all off in 2015. If you’re the sort of person who changes their hair every week, this might not seem like a particularly big deal to you, but having super-long hair is kind of my thing, so cutting it off at my shoulders was a really bold move. And while I liked it at first, my hair is very fine, and I found the need for daily styling a bit of a fuss. Needless to say, the novelty of change soon wore off, and I became wholeheartedly committed to growing it again. Six long years later, I’m now back in my comfort zone with my hair brushing against my lower back. But finally having my strands back…

Tessa Thompson in Black and White

December 07, 2021 at 08:00AM There’s something about Tessa Thompson—an alchemy that, at the mere mention of her name, makes people start to swoon. And rightfully so. For all the heart eyes that surround her name, the woman IRL is proof that all the excitement is well worth it.While the rest of us have been trying to figure out how many books to prop our laptops on or buying ring lights for our monitors, Thompson effortlessly glows over Zoom. She looks the height of chic in a black top and an enviable slicked-back bun that would make an Eco Style Gel enthusiast weep. She’s lounged with the ease and warmth that we hope to get from an “aspirationally approachable” movie star. All of that combined makes the job of chatting about her latest film, Passing, that much easier.Adapted from the 1929 novel by Nella…

This Balm Is Over 90 Years Old, and Everyone I Know Still Loves It

December 07, 2021 at 08:00AM Although it was launched way back in 1930, Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream remains a must-have beauty product amongst makeup artists, celebrities and stylish people alike. The packaging might have changed over the years, with limited-edition releases continuing to go down a storm with Arden devotees, but there’s no doubt that this apricot-coloured balm remains continually popular. In fact, a tube is sold every 30 seconds worldwide. So after more than 90 years in existence, what exactly has enabled this unassuming product to stand the test of time? Created by Elizabeth Arden herself, the balm is a blend of vitamin E and petrolatum that was specially created to soothe the skin of clients at her Red Door salon in New York. In line with Arden’s ethos on all things beauty, it was specially formulated to actually do good to the skin—healing…

Kate Middleton and Emily Ratajkowski Just Wore the Same Winter Outfit Formula

December 07, 2021 at 08:00AM Emily Ratajkowski’s and the Duchess of Cambridge’s style choices usually couldn’t be more different. However, this week, they both approached winter dressing in a very similar way. They were each seen wearing bright-pink tailored jackets. It’s not a colour typically associated with winter dressing but is a really uplifting choice. Both kept the focus on the jacket, pairing it with simple basics.Ratajkowski opted for black tights, a pair of knee-high boots and a black roll-neck, while the duchess wore a matching raspberry roll-neck and a pair of high-waisted black trousers. Keep scrolling to see their looks and shop pink tailoring, if you’re keen to replicate this winter styling idea.Next up, see our guide to the key trends for autumn and winter 2021. Your Lingerie Is Over the Second You Do This

December 07, 2021 at 08:00AM Over the years, I’ve accumulated quite a nice collection of lingerie, had multiple bra fittings and received quotes from some of the biggest experts in the industry on the dos and don'ts of lingerie across the board. Most of these rules are easy enough to follow, except for one (at least for me). During my most recent lingerie fitting for a story I wrote on what it’s like to wear lingerie sets for a week straight, the saleswoman assisting me told me that if I’m not storing my lingerie properly, I’m basically killing it, not getting my money’s worth, and so on and so forth.Instantly I switched into panic mode as I realised all my lingerie was currently stuffed in my drawer along with the rest of my five-for-ÂŁ20 underwear and random assortment of sports bras. In other words,…
