The “Dated” Trend French Women Still Love to Wear

January 08, 2022 at 08:00AM One thing we’ve noticed about French women is their shared ability to breathe new life into older trends—looks some might even deem “dated.” But with their natural flair and laid-back approach to styling, they have influenced us to wear a trend we previously wrote off. Enter corduroy. While this retro fabric has long been considered a basic, we haven’t seen it as much in the last few years. But make no mistake—if you follow the Gallic-girl dress code, it’s one of the season’s biggest trends.Although the material has roots in the ‘70s, French women are giving their corduroy staples a modern feel, wearing them in fresh new ways. Take Julie Sergent Ferreri, whose bright-pink corduroy suit was one of the sleekest looks we clocked during Paris Fashion Week. And Franny Fyne? She makes her classic tan corduroy blazer feel bang-up-to-date with the addition of crisp ecru…

A Skin Expert Just Told Me How to Actually Get Rid of Dark Circles

January 08, 2022 at 06:30AM I often get asked what it is that I love about working in beauty, and for me, it’s simple: It’s the magic of beauty products. Sure, it might sound a little bit Marie Kondo, but I’m always amazed at the transformative nature of beauty. Sometimes it might be something small (like a primer that makes your skin look subtly brighter or an eyebrow gel that finally manages to fill in a sparse patch that’s been nagging you), while other times it might be something more obvious (like a full-on hair transformation or forgoing your usual lip balm for a bold red lip). Either way, I find that I always feel most like myself when I’ve got the right beauty products on my side.On the other hand, though, there are certain things that beauty products just can’t help with—despite the amount…

These Moisturisers Are So Glowy That You Won’t Even Need Any Highlight

January 08, 2022 at 06:30AM Trying to nail the perfect, natural-looking glow is certainly no mean feat. Trust me. I’ve been trying to suss it out for years. It seems some people are just born with a radiant complexion that oozes luminosity and health. In a bid to replicate this glow, I have tried virtually every single highlighting makeup product under the sun, and I am yet to find a formula that doesn’t give the game away somehow. Whether it’s chunky bits of glitter or my lack of ability to apply it to the most natural-looking places, I have been forced to admit defeat when it comes to highlight. So with highlighters out of the question, I have had to think outside of the box when it comes to upping my glow game. From primers to serums and cleansers to foundations, I have searched high and low for any product…

We Identified the 9 It Nail Colours for 2022, and Yep, They’re Ridiculously Good

January 08, 2022 at 06:30AM I don’t know about you, but I never get nail fatigue. In fact, as much as I love buying new makeup, switching up my skincare routine or trying something different with my hair, shifting my nail MO reigns supreme. Painting my nails has become my happy place, and while I absolutely love the boost a shiny new colour gives my mood and confidence, the actual process of painting my nails—or even going to the salon—is one of my favourite ways to wind down and turn the world off for a second. You know what I mean?I don’t typically buy into trends when it comes to my mani of choice (I'll paint my nails any hue I damn well please, thank you very much), but that doesn’t mean I’m not interested in finding out which nail colours will pop more than others…

Tendril Braids Are Our Favourite Hair Trend Right Now—Here’s All the Inspo

January 08, 2022 at 06:30AM We’re not sure about you, but whenever the New Year rolls around, we find ourselves searching high and low for new hairstyle inspiration. Something about the winter months just seems to make hairstyling particularly tricky. From matting winds and drying central heating to hat hair and messy updos, trying to get your hair to do anything right in these cold climes is no mean feat. This winter, we’re on the lookout for slightly more interesting ways to style our hair—something low-key, wearable and easy enough to execute, yet something different enough to break up our boring winter hair cycles (wash, style, gets greasy, throw it up in a bun, repeat). One trend garnering traction at the moment is tendril braids, and they just might answer our winter hair prayers.Super-fine statement braids or plaits that can be as high- or low-maintenance as…

This “Boring” Jumper Makes Every Outfit Look So Much Chicer

January 08, 2022 at 06:03AM My friends often joke that my wardrobe looks like a stock room. The reason? Because it’s filled with seemingly large quantities of the same item—from blue, straight-leg jeans and dark floral dresses to top-handle bags and checked skirts. What can I say? I know what I like! And the garment I have more of than anything else? Hands down, it’s got to be cream jumpers.Basic it may be, but in my opinion, there’s nothing that looks quite as chic as a cream jumper. Barely a winter day goes by when I don’t wear cream knitwear, whether it’s with the aforementioned blue jeans or checked skirts (or even over my dark floral dresses). And it seems I’m not the only one.So many of my fashion friends have been wearing this staple of late and to very stylish avail. Keep scrolling…

The Jacket Style I’ll Always Love, Whether It’s “in Fashion” or Not

January 08, 2022 at 06:00AM Have you ever flicked through a fashion magazine only to be informed that your most treasured item of clothing is now, in fact, “old news”? It’s as if the mere turning of time, and creation of new trends, results in the obsolescence of everything that has come before. Nope, it doesn’t make sense to me, either. I believe it takes real confidence to wear what you want to wear, regardless of its relevance (or irrelevance) to the current fashion cycle, which is why I decided to write about my love of the biker jacket, which has remained steady over the years, regardless of fluctuating trends.I have been wearing biker jackets since I was 18, back in the days of Kate Moss’s pitch-perfect, black-skinnies–and–leather-jacket ensembles. While their popularity has waxed and waned in the intervening years (although, interestingly, Prada’s S/S 22 collection suggests a resurgence), I remain…

I Can’t Stand It When People Say These 7 Things About Styling

January 08, 2022 at 06:00AM Anyone who watched What Not to Wear back in the early noughties will be familiar with the idea of “fashion rules.” For me, it instantly summons a vision of Trinny and Susannah circling their subject in the infamous 360-degree mirror, calling out well-rehearsed style dictats: “Women with big boobs should never ever wear smock tops,” “Under 5'4”? Step away from the maxi dresses.“Fast-forward almost 20 years and, thankfully, conversations around size diversity, "age-appropriate” dressing and sartorial dos and don'ts have progressed, allowing a new generation to experiment with fashion without the confines of arbitrary rules.Unfortunately, outdated conceptions around “what to wear” still exist (more often than not in the comments section of social media platforms), and as a fashion editor, I'm constantly having to debunk unhelpful beliefs that stop people from truly expressing themselves and getting joy from their clothes. So for the record, I thought I would run through the seven fashion “rules” that particularly…

Where We Turn to On the High Street for These 13 Classic Items

January 08, 2022 at 06:00AM It’s a common misconception that the high street is only good for fast, trend-led fashion. Of course, it does do that— and very well. The speed at which Zara can pick up the catwalk trends before we’ve even decided we want to start wearing them is impressive. But there’s also classic, timeless items to be found, that work seriously hard in your wardrobe and stay there for years to come. You just have to know the right places to look.  Jessica wears & Other Stories coatThat’s where we come in. High street stores may seem like jack of all trades with their extensive collections, ranging from outerwear and underwear to footwear. But actually, most of them have hero pieces they do best— and after years of trials (and plenty of errors), team Who What Wear think we’ve got what classic pieces to buy from…

It’s Hard to Find Amazing Plus-Size Coats, but I Just Found So Many Great Ones

January 08, 2022 at 06:00AM As winter rolled around, the fashion chat amongst my friends turned to how this winter would be the winter of the “Great Coat.” They were excited to wear all the fabulous coats they had seen and mentally added to their rental or shopping lists. Whereas I was left thinking, WHERE EXACTLY ARE THESE GOOD COATS?! I should probably tell you that I’m the only plus-size person in this friendship group, which explains a lot. All these dream coats are made by brands that don’t make clothes in my size. In fact, most of them stop short at about four sizes smaller than what I wear, so squeezing in, or hoping they were a bit oversized, was out of the question too.I took my frustration at these brands for not making my size and channeled it into my search…
