091: Balancing your blood sugar and making healthy swaps with Kara Collier

091: Balancing your blood sugar and making healthy swaps with Kara CollierNovember 17, 2021 at 11:27AM New podcast up with Kara Collier, chatting about balancing blood sugar and making healthy swaps.  Hi friends! New podcast episode is up on the blog and I’m so excited for this one, because I’m chatting with the co-founder of a company that I love: Nutrisense. I first found out about Nutrisense from my friend Mia, and wanted to try it because I had some borderline high fasting glucose levels last year. She walked me through the whole process of inserting my first CGM, and I was so excited to analyze all of the data I received from Nutrisense. You can check out my full blog post here! You can also use the code GINA50 for $50 off if you want to give it a try! (Not an…

How To Brine A Turkey Breast Before Roasting

How To Brine A Turkey Breast Before RoastingNovember 15, 2021 at 11:11AM Thanksgiving is just around the corner and today we’re talking about the perfect turkey brine and how to brine a turkey breast before roasting! Brining is different from marinating. Usually for a marinade, you’re coating the meat with some type of dressing or sauce that’s a mix of oil and acid (vinegar or citrus) with fresh herbs to add flavor. Brining uses salt and water and is a method to infuse moisture to meat that may otherwise dry out. Salt can be used to preserve meat, but in this case, we’re infusing the meat with flavor from the inside out. Brining is particularly helpful for Thanksgiving because it can make the turkey more moist, tender, and flavorful after roasting. You can completely customize the brine and can mix up flavors however…

October 2021 Reads

October 2021 ReadsNovember 09, 2021 at 11:00AM Sharing the books I read in October and if I think they’re worth it! Another month, another 3 books in the yearly tally. To be totally honest, this month’s reading didn’t feel as robust as previous ones: one was a repeat book and one is a cookbook. It was the Pilot’s birthday, P’s birthday, Halloween, and what feels like a thousand other things, so even though it was a busy month, I’m glad this goal encouraged me to stick with it. I’m excited to read more in November! Here’s what I enjoyed in October and if I’d recommend these. October 2021 Reads 1. The Silent Patient I was nervous to read this one, because I typically stay away from gory, scary, and violent books/movies. They give me bad dreams, and with the Pilot’s travel schedule, I just…

Friday Faves

Friday FavesNovember 05, 2021 at 10:48AM Hey friends! Happy Friday! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. The kids have had a few half days in a row for school, so it’s been a little less on the productivity front, but I’ve been loving take them out to lunch, to the park, and on some extra adventures. Today, we’re meeting up with the Pilot at the air show. The rest of the weekend should be pretty chill. We’re watching Harry Potter 6 (getting close!), heading to a friend’s house for dinner, and enjoying the beautiful Tucson weather. I hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend ahead, too! Some Halloween pics: (We tried taking pics of the guinea pigs in their costumes, but it was a giant fail. Donut’s was too small on her – she’s HUGE, like a furry football haha – and…
