Minimalist Skin, Y2K Gloss and More Spring Beauty Trends to Know

January 19, 2022 at 03:15PM We still have a few months of parka wearing, driveway salting and wind chill calculating ahead of us, but the countdown to spring (and the chance to ditch our beloved puffers) is on. And just like our wardrobe, our beauty routine deserves a little seasonal refresh, too. As we say goodbye to winter, the season’s warmer hues and our dry skin, we welcome fresh complexions, bold accents and the sense of optimism and reinvention that spring brings. To prepare, we asked Essie’s global lead educator and celebrity nail artist Rita Remark and Maybelline New York’s lead makeup artist in Canada, Grace Lee, about the top spring 2022 beauty trends (and how to update our makeup and nail kits accordingly). Skin is in Givenchy S/S 2022. Photography by ImaxtreeThis is the reminder you’ve been waiting for: stop skipping your…

Michael Kors celebrates 40 years by collaborating with the future of fashion

January 19, 2022 at 02:00PM Award-winning luxury designer, Michael Kors, is finishing up the celebration of his namesake company’s 40th anniversary by supporting the future of fashion. Michael Kors built his global empire by dedicating years to crafting and curating a vision as refined and modern as it is indulgent. Since New York is the birthplace of both Michael Kors the brand and the founder himself, collaborating with ASHYA, a New York-based brand inspired by heritage and travel, was a given. With his own journey and roots in mind, he decided to mentor and support the American-Jamaican duo behind this emerging brand—Ashley Cimone and Moya Annece—by offering up his expertise and the resources of his renowned brand. “Anniversaries make you think about both the past and the future,” said Kors. “I began my business in New York City in 1981, and now I…

Can You Manifest Your Dreams On Social Media?

January 18, 2022 at 08:34PM “When I grow up, I want to be a more successful version of me,” 25-year-old Issa Rae tweeted in 2010. Over a decade later, that same tweet is flooded with responses from fans assuring the Insecure star that she did, indeed, grow up to find success. When I grow up, I want to be a more successful version of me. — Issa Rae (@IssaRae) July 6, 2010 Rae’s tweet and others like it point to a larger phenomenon of speaking your dreams into reality, also known as manifestation. Manifesting comes from an ancient principle called “Law of Attraction,” which states that by focusing on your goals and thinking positively, you can essentially wish into existence the life you want. On social media, the practice of aspirational thinking has never been more popular. According to Twitter, posts about manifestation…

Canada’s Drag Race Winner Icesis Couture On THAT Finale Look

January 18, 2022 at 05:00PM Icesis Couture is currently in a love/hate relationship with her sewing machine. “We’re fighting,” she says on the phone. “I don’t want to see it; I don’t want to talk to it; I don’t want to use it!” Given what she’s just gone through, it’s easy to see why. Icesis Couture has been serving looks since the first day she sissy’d that walk into the Werk Room on Canada’s Drag Race season two. From her yellow entrance ensemble to her grand finale fantasy, the Ottawa-based queen treated the Main Stage as her personal runway, and the judges and viewers fell in love with her for it. As her self-proclaimed “nerdy” and “weird” fashion sense merged with her charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent, she became an unstoppable force and went on to win the title of Canada’s Next Drag…

Male Celebrities Dominate Men’s Fashion Week in Milan

January 18, 2022 at 02:30PM Celebrity cameos bring star power to fashion shows. Designers know this: throughout fashion history, high-profile stars like Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Jared Leto and Jennifer Lopez have been tapped to add an extra air of excitement to the catwalk. With each celebrity casting, the mood of the collection is set by the personality of the star featured. And despite faded novelty, the wonder of seeing a public figure on the runway remains. Since Men’s Fashion Week in Milan kicked off on January 14, celebrity sightings have been the theme of the season. On January 16, audiences were pleasantly surprised to see OG Hollywood actors Kyle MacLachlan and Jeff Goldblum respectively bookend the Prada Fall/Winter 2022 show. Clad in a black overcoat with fur trim and armbands, Goldblum made his way down the runway with ease — looking perfectly at…

More Alexa Demie Street Style, Please

January 17, 2022 at 08:07PM Maddy Perez is not to be messed with. The Euphoria character with a heavenly wardrobe is straightforward and loyal, but you don’t want to get on her bad side. Perez embodies everything fans love about the HBO series: drama, darkness and, of course, daring fashion. And we have actor Alexa Demie to credit for so effortlessly bringing the character’s edgy cool girl aesthetic to life. The L.A.-born performer rarely makes a press appearance, but when she does, she goes all out. Like her Euphoria character, Demie’s style has been the subject of much social media chatter. Already this season, Maddy’s many looks have spawned countless fashion memes and served plenty of style inspiration. Perfectionism Trapped Me in a World of Comparison

January 14, 2022 at 03:27PM One apple. That’s what I’d allow myself in the middle of the day. I remember staring at it, although at times it felt more like it had its gaze on me. I don’t remember what I’d had for breakfast, but I’m sure it wasn’t much, even though I was obsessed with food or, more accurately, denying myself of it. The calories I did consume in a day were burned off in high intensity workouts. I thought that I was treating my body like a temple, but it would be more accurate to describe it as a torture chamber. I was in my early 20s and the skinniest I’d been in my lifetime. My sister tried to talk to me about it once. “You’re quite thin these days,” she commented out of concern while we were driving in the…
