Iann Dior Gets Vulnerable On His New Album

February 01, 2022 at 09:40PM As a baby millennial, the music video for Iann Dior’s “Let You,” off his new album On To Better Things, took me back to a specific moment in time: my childhood “computer room” (remember those?), where an angstier, 12-year-old me would watch Panic! at the Disco and Paramore perform on my desktop screen. It’s no surprise, then, to learn that those very artists (and others like Jay Z and Kanye) were some of Dior’s earliest inspirations. Call it emo rap, pop punk, emo pop or trap pop, the 22-year-old multi-platinum artist’s music isn’t easy to pin down. Photography courtesy of MCMIn 2019, Dior (Michael Ian Olmo) started to record songs on SoundCloud, where artists like Post Malone and Kehlani got their start. Months after he released his debut mixtape, nothings ever good enough, he put out his first…

Are Aquariuses The Most Stylish Astrological Sign?

February 01, 2022 at 06:49PM Full disclosure: I’m an Aquarius, but I’ve struggled with my astrological identity for years. Perhaps other January and February babies will agree, but I’ve always been taught that my sign is associated with free spirits, rebellious misfits and eccentric oddities. Co–Star, the popular astrology app, describes Aquariuses as “believing in conspiracy theories.” Similarly, Astrology.com says women of the air-sign “prefer to live on the fringes.” While this may be true for some, it’s not exactly inspiring for me. I very much prefer staying away from the “fringes;” I’ve never done a rebellious thing in my life (unless you count the time I accidentally ended up on the roof of a community centre when I was ten because I took the wrong staircase); And I firmly believe that COVID-19 is real. But after digging a bit further and asking…

How H.E.R. Learned to Love her Curly Hair

February 01, 2022 at 02:33PM R&B singer H.E.R. has been racking up accolades. Last year alone, she snagged two Grammys, including for Song of the Year (she already has several nominations for 2022) and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Fight for You,” featured in Judas and the Black Messiah. It feels like the California native is just getting started and the sky is surely the limit. Along with her signature shades, her luscious curly hair is instantly recognizable, so it comes as no surprise that H.E.R was recently announced as the latest spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris’s Dream Lengths Curl range. Photography Courtesy of L’Oréal ParisWe asked H.E.R. how she manages to keep her hair at its best (especially now that she’s a beauty ambassador) and the keys to curly girl appreciation. How does it feel to be the face of…

January 31, 2022 at 09:46PM The Fenty empire is expanding but we’re not talking business — we’re talking baby! Rihanna is expecting her first child with partner A$AP Rocky, and she just announced it in the most fashionably Rihanna way possible. We’re talking straight up vintage Chanel, a blinged out belly, and street style photos to prove it. After months (and years, to be honest) of pregnancy gossip circulating, the question of “Is she or isn’t she?” was finally settled when celebrity fashion photographer, Diggzy, shut rumours all the way down with an Instagram photo of Riri baring her baby belly captioned “SHE IS!” View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Miles Diggs (@diggzy) As the couple took to the streets of New York City to make their debut as soon-to-be parents, Diggzy captured the moment in a series of…

Jules Redefines Femininity in Euphoria

January 31, 2022 at 08:33PM Intense, captivating visuals are arguably what Euphoria does best. And costume designer Heidi Bivens brings that creative energy to the wardrobe department, where clothing is symbolic of character development. Case in point: Jules Vaughn. Played by Hunter Schafer, Jules has been a pillar of the show’s impeccable fashion reputation since it premiered in 2019. With an eye for visual art, the character’s outfits embody her natural creativity. As the series progresses, Jules continues to examine the ways in which her self-expression connects with her transness, womanhood and her own body. And in season two, her changing style tells a story. PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF EDDY CHEN/HBOThe latest Euphoria episode opened with an artistic ode to fan-favourite on-screen couple, Jules and Rue (Zendaya). In what is perhaps the most beautiful scene of the entire series, we see a creative montage…

The Most Viral Spring 2022 Couture Runway Moments

January 28, 2022 at 08:32PM Viral moments are fashion’s most coveted currency (after, you know, actual currency). By now, designers understand that most of us consume fashion week content from our social media feeds, and that in order to cut through the digital clutter, you have to give the people something to talk about. And for Spring 2022 couture week, the conversation went in many different directions — from Chanel’s equine model to Schiaparelli’s gold-headed handbag and Viktor & Rolf’s Nosferatu-inspired wear. Across all collections, this season’s haute couture found itself at the intersection of levity and austerity with a hint of futurism. See for yourself with our roundup of the most viral runway moments of couture week 2022. This Canadian Designer Has Created the Ultimate Aprés Ski Sweater

January 28, 2022 at 04:28PM “I want shoppers to get asked where they got their sweaters,” writes South van der Lee, president and designer of GOGO, over email. “But I also hope they feel like they are getting a big hug.” Such is the ethos behind the Calgary-based brand that has become a social media darling. Known for pairing millennial-esque colours and graphics with luxury wool and hand-crafted designs, the Canadian label was first launched in the late seventies by van der Lee’s mother in Alberta. In 2010, South took over and temporarily moved the operation to Toronto. “TO was very welcoming to new designers,” she shares. “I was, however, raised in the mountains and love to ski, so it was difficult not having access to the Rocky Mountains. I decided to move back out West after six years. Now I can hike…

The Best Street Style From Couture Week SS22

January 28, 2022 at 04:06PM I think I speak for all of us Canadians who are currently bundled up in warm winter-proof layers when I say it would be a — the? — dream to saunter down the streets of Paris enveloped by the magic of couture week. Every year, it’s those very streets where you’ll find the best off-runway style inspiration (I mean, we love a hunchback moment, but I wouldn’t exactly wear Nosferatu-style ear-high shoulder pads to Sunday brunch). Outside the city’s venues, guests, models and fashion’s top brass served some seriously creative street style for Spring 2022 couture week. Forget your model-off-duty neutrals and say hello to colourful monochromatic moments, patterns reminiscent of the 1960s, ‘70s by way of Y2K, shearling accents, and accessories like balaclavas, mini purses and statement jewellery (See our Spring/Summer 2022 trend reports for fashion, hair and…
