Milk Makeup Founder Zanna Roberts Rassi Has the Best Beauty Tips

June 02, 2022 at 09:10PM As an industry polymath — award-winning fashion and beauty editor and broadcast journalist, co-founder of the wildly popular beauty brand Milk Makeup and brand ambassador for payment platform AfterPay — as well as a mother of eight-year-old twins, Zanna Roberts Rassi is the ultimate multi-tasking wonder. In fact, her busy schedule is what first birthed the idea for Milk Makeup, a line of vegan, gender-blending makeup and skincare staples, back in 2016. “There are four co-founders, and when we launched, we had five kids under the age of two between all of us, so the brand was created with multifunction and speed in mind. Something clean that you don’t mind your kids picking up in the bathroom while you’re all trying to get ready at the same time. Something you can use in a cab on the way…

Cheekbone Beauty is Here to Remind You About Canada’s Water Crisis

June 02, 2022 at 04:31PM Would you wear contaminated lip gloss? That’s the question Cheekbone Beauty wants you to consider in its new campaign, #GlossedOver. In light of Indigenous History Month, the makeup brand is calling attention to Canada’s drinking water crisis. The company released three lip glosses infused with water from Indigenous communities across the country. And, just like the water, the products are unsafe to use. Welcome “Luscious Lead,” “E. Coli Kiss” and “Mercury Shimmer” to the Cheekbone Beauty lip gloss collection. Sound gross? That’s the point. CEO Jenn Harper, who is Anishinaabe, founded Cheekbone Beauty in 2016 with the goal of making space in the beauty industry for Indigenous youth. #GlossedOver is an extension of that ethos. “This month is already heavily focused on Indigenous issues, and knowing that attention is on us, we wanted to use that visibility to…

A Verdict for the Depp v Heard Trial Has Been Reached

June 01, 2022 at 08:37PM More than three million people tuned into the Law&Crime Network’s live stream of the verdict for the high-profile defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, Depp v Heard. And it’s swung in Depp’s favour to the tune of $15 million (all figures USD). The jury awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages for her counterclaim. Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation over an essay she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, where she discussed being a victim of abuse, without mentioning Depp’s name. Prior to this, Heard received a restraining order against Depp after accusing him of domestic violence when she filed for divorce in 2016 (they were married in 2015). The court case, part of a longstanding legal battle between the ex-spouses, has morphed into a cesspit of internet chaos in…

Will Influencer Culture Ever Die?

June 01, 2022 at 07:02PM On a recent episode of her podcast, Anything Goes, YouTuber turned fashion influencer Emma Chamberlain predicted a “cultural shift” in the realm of internet fame. Her argument: because everyone is trying to be an influencer, the industry has become less exclusive and, in turn, less credible. But was it ever credible to begin with? The idea that a person of influence could be used to sell us something is not new. Back in the 18th century, royalty would endorse all sorts of products peddled to the masses. Today, the closest comparison to that might be the Kardashian-Jenners. But to be an “influencer,” meaning someone who built their audience from the ground up on social media, is a different beast entirely. In the 2010s, YouTube beauty gurus were inking more lucrative brand deals than they probably knew what to…

How to Style a Silk Scarf This Summer

May 31, 2022 at 10:20PM One of the best packing tips I’ve ever received is to always bring a silk scarf. Why? Because you never know when you’re going to need it. What if your luggage gets lost in transit and you’re left with only a white t-shirt? A brilliantly coloured neckerchief will instantly elevate your outfit. What if you misread the weather report, and instead of the balmy temperatures you dressed for, it’s a scorching sunny day? A slinky square of fabric makes the perfect impromptu bandeau top. And God forbid you get trapped in a tower Disney Princess style, and you miraculously remembered to pack fifty scarves. You can tie them all together and escape your evil stepmother equivalent. So, if you need a style refresher or just some warm weather dressing inspiration, here is how to style a silk scarf…
