Women-Owned Brands to Shop This International Women’s Day

March 04, 2022 at 06:09PM International Women’s Day is right around the corner, and what better way to to mark the occasion than by supporting women-owned brands? With its origins as a socialist movement in the early 1900s, IWD is a celebration of the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. This year’s theme, “Break the Bias,” calls on us all to “imagine a gender equal world.” In Canada and internationally, this dream can feel out of reach. From the abortion ban in Texas to the crisis in Ukraine that threatens the rights of LGBTQ+ people, playing an active role to create “a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination,” per IWD, is more important than ever. And so in honour of International Women’s Day, we’re spotlighting women-owned brands that you can support now. From clothing and accessories to beauty and home decor, these…

The Benefits of Oats in Skincare

March 03, 2022 at 01:00PM While the winter season is picturesque and great for all things cozy, it tends to do quite a number on our skin. Dry skin can quickly become a daily winter struggle thanks to cooler temps, harsh wind, and lower humidity. With that in mind, it’s crucial to adjust your skincare routine to focus on hydrating and barrier-protecting products and ingredients. Enter: Oats. This natural skincare ingredient has been used as a hydrating and healing agent as early as  2000 BC in ancient Egypt. In 1945, with the help of modern technology, researchers were able to finely grind up kernels of oats to make dissolvable colloidal oatmeal for topical skincare products such as Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Body Wash and Lotion. If you’re struggling with dry skin this winter, here’s why oat-based products may be your saving grace. Hydrates and…

Sydney Sweeney is Now Engaged and Redheaded

March 03, 2022 at 05:55PM After being photographed in Los Angeles earlier this week with a rock on her ring finger, People confirmed that Euphoria actor Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Davino (her beau of almost four years) are officially engaged. The notoriously private FASHION cover star, 24, has been linked to the Chicago restaurateur, 37, since October 2018. But in a recent interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Sweeney shared some honest (albeit non-specific) tidbits about her romantic life. “I don’t date people in the spotlight. I don’t date actors, musicians or anyone in entertainment because I can just be normal Syd that way and it’s easiest,” she divulged. “I look for a best friend. I need to be with someone who I can hang out with 24/7 and never get sick of, and we laugh every single day.” And here’s to hoping she found…

All the Top Bridal Hair Trends for 2022

March 03, 2022 at 02:43PM The 2022 wedding season is right around the corner, and many are taking a different approach to their bridal hair. Since the pandemic altered the way we plan weddings, many couples fall into one of two camps: wanting a smaller, more intimate affair or going completely over-the-top to make up for all the fun they’ve missed out on in recent years. “I see two versions of a bride at the moment: the super-natural, relatable-looking bride with a more windblown hairstyle that has natural texture or a curl and a middle part, or there’s the bride that says, ‘Screw it. I’ve been on lock down for two years. I’m going all out,‘” says pro hairstylist and groomer Cia Mandarello. Read on for more of the biggest bridal hair trends for 2022. How to Wear Spring’s Belt Trend

March 01, 2022 at 03:50PM Truthfully, I’m slightly stressed about how to style a belt. As a fashion news director, I’m in support of designers using belts. As someone who loves to accentuate her waist in her daily style, I understand belts. And as a sometimes wearer of ill-fitting pants, I admit that I need the belt. But whenever I go shopping or get dressed and see that chunky or chain-y accessory, it causes me a moment’s pause. For such a small piece of fabric, the belt can be very intimidating. When done right, you look rich. When done wrong, you look pretty wrecked. A slight tuck of fabric or rise of jeans can be the difference between looking like an effortlessly cool Rihanna or a Blair Waldorf wannabe. But what is fashion for, if not to be bold and take chances —…

The Best Street Style from Milan Fashion Week Fall 2022

February 28, 2022 at 09:11PM It would seem that all the colours missing from Italy’s catwalks have resurfaced onto the international influencers peppering the streets. As always, camera-ready showgoers were strutting around the city for Milan Fashion Week, and while this year’s ready-to-wear runways showcased subdued palettes for fall, guests outside the glamorous venues were photographed in vivid spring hues. As with London, New York and Copenhagen, experimental street style was all the rage for Milan Fashion Week Fall 2022. Colours like purple, yellow and orange were intensified with pinstripe patterns, tie dye, frills and fur. A few attendees got the autumnal memo, with many street style stars layering neutral shades like brown and olive green. Looking to solidify your shopping list? Rihanna Stuns at Gucci + Other Viral Moments from Milan Fashion Week

February 28, 2022 at 09:04PM It’s good to be back in Italy. The temperature is warmer. The air smells tastier. And the fashion somehow feels posher. After the experimental explosion that was London, it’s nice to return to some not-so-basic basics. As seen in the previous two fashion weeks, boudoir dressing and exquisite tailoring continue to trend, with many designers opting out of the serotonin-boosting brights of the spring and into a more subdued palette for fall. But unlike the other cities, the Italian talents who presented at Milan Fashion Week put a strong emphasis on wearability. Excluding the life-sized lamp and nesting doll-like puffers seen at the more out-there luxury labels (read: Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana), textural and transitional garments appeared effortless, despite the hours and sweat that have gone into them. But the real story was off the runway, as…

Milan Fashion Week’s Best Beauty Looks

February 28, 2022 at 05:52PM While over-the-top Italian glamour will always send hearts racing (we’re looking at you, Moschino), natural and carefree beauty continued to be the overwhelming theme at Milan Fashion Week Fall 2022. Middle parts and natural textures were seen on the runways of classically boho labels such as Etro and Missoni, as well as many others, including Abodi and Sportmax. However, just as we were thinking we could stash our blow dryers come fall, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana paired middle parts with super-sleek and polished strands that nearly have us blowing the dust off our early 2000s-era flat irons. Don’t even have time for an air dry? Why not simply slick your hair back right out of the shower? Jil Sander and Giorgio Armani showed too-cool-for-school wet looks, while the pared-down bouffants at Prada were slicked back with more…
