The Travis Scott Astroworld Tragedy is Sparking Calls to Abolish Celebrity Culture

November 09, 2021 at 01:08PM Travis Scott and Drake are reportedly facing multiple lawsuits after eight people were killed and scores more injured in a crowd surge at Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas. As we’ve all come to learn, the event descended into chaos on November 5 when the crowd pushed toward the stage during Scott’s set, the pressure leaving some attendees unable to breathe, witnesses say. “The crowd, for whatever reason, began to push and surge towards the front of the stage, which caused the people in the front to be compressed — they were unable to escape that situation,” Houston fire chief Sam Peña told CNN. Those who died range from the ages of 27 to 14 years old. Of the roughly 50,000 people that attended the show, 25 were hospitalized, the youngest patient just 10 years old, as reported…

October 2021 Reads

October 2021 ReadsNovember 09, 2021 at 11:00AM Sharing the books I read in October and if I think they’re worth it! Another month, another 3 books in the yearly tally. To be totally honest, this month’s reading didn’t feel as robust as previous ones: one was a repeat book and one is a cookbook. It was the Pilot’s birthday, P’s birthday, Halloween, and what feels like a thousand other things, so even though it was a busy month, I’m glad this goal encouraged me to stick with it. I’m excited to read more in November! Here’s what I enjoyed in October and if I’d recommend these. October 2021 Reads 1. The Silent Patient I was nervous to read this one, because I typically stay away from gory, scary, and violent books/movies. They give me bad dreams, and with the Pilot’s travel schedule, I just…

I Asked a Dermatologist How to De-Puff Eyes, and the Answers Really Work

November 09, 2021 at 08:00AM The skin around your eyes is very delicate and thin, so you want to be gentle with it. That means using the right products and avoiding rubbing, scratching, or pulling at the area. Because that area is so sensitive, you might also find yourself dealing with things like dark under-eye circles, dryness, and puffiness. The latter part is one thing I’ve been dealing with a lot lately, so I went to a dermatologist for some answers. In fact, puffy eyes are one of the most common concerns that patients bring to their dermatologists, says Kathleen S. Viscusi, MD, FAAD, FACMS, co-founder and partner at Dermatology and Surgery Specialists of North Atlanta (DESSNA). Treating puffy eyes is a bit more complicated than you would think. “Effectively addressing this concern for each patient is much more variable. Just as there isn’t…

Ever Since I Bought These ÂŁ35 M&S Shoes, I’ve Struggled to Wear Anything Else

November 09, 2021 at 08:00AM Marks and Spencer is one of our favourite places to shop for long-lasting wardrobe staples and has a strong track record of every day turning basics into cult items, whether it’s a grey jumper or a beige wrap coat. I am most impressed by M&S’ footwear department, and wear a pair of ballet pumps at least nine days out of ten, as they are the comfiest shoes I own. I’ve had them for over a year now, and they just keep on going…These ÂŁ35 pumps have a high cut and a gentle V towards the toe, which make them appear more elevated that the classic almond toe. There’s something a little Phoebe Philo about this silhouette, no? I personally stick to a plain black pair, but there are many other colours and finishes to choose from, like woven silver or soft suedes. Going into autumn 2021, there…

I Speak to Dermatologists Every Day—These Are the Brands They Always Recommend

November 09, 2021 at 08:00AM The best thing about being a beauty editor is that I get the opportunity to speak with some of the world’s top beauty experts basically every single day. From celebrity makeup artists to Harley Street surgeons, I am forever picking the brains of experts in a bid to learn everything there is to know about beauty. And while picking up different makeup tips and tricks is wonderful, the one thing I am always most fascinated by is the sort of products skin experts swear by.There’s no doubt that shopping for skincare can be daunting and often frustrating, and not just because of the abundance of choice. All too often we are let down by miracle claims that don’t live up to their promises. And while most medical skin experts and dermatologists insist that if you have serious skin concerns, you should always seek…

From Now on, This Is How I’m Doing Wedding Guest Dressing

November 09, 2021 at 08:00AM I won’t be the first or the last person to ever panic about what to wear to a wedding. The truth is that it's difficult because we’ve all been hardwired into buying something new for the occasion. I imagine this is something to do with the psychology behind getting dressed. A new dress will make us feel and look better, so we’re always striving for the next dress to give us that confidence boost. I get it because I’ve been there, but there are two major problems with this thinking: One, it’s not ethical to continue buying a new dress every time there’s a fancy event on only to never wear it again. Two, it’s not a financial option for most of us. But what if I were to tell you that you can wear a new dress to every nuptial you’ve…

Over the last week or so, the high street has well and truly embraced the spirit of the season with everything from stocking fillers to party dresses to glitter-strewn decorations. And let’s be honest, after last year’s Christmas, we are very much deserving of full-blown festivities. Naturally, as a shopping editor, I have already started my wish list. (Yes, I am one of those people, and I’m okay with it.) 11 Nail Polish Brands That Deliver Salon-Grade Manicures

November 09, 2021 at 06:30AM Like carrying a designer handbag, there’s just something about a fresh manicure or a sleek pedicure that makes you walk taller. It’s a small luxury that goes a long way in making you feel more confident, which is precisely why nail appointments are so in-demand. When salons reopened earlier this year, we vowed we would never take our manicure appointments for granted ever again. However, with that being said, after many months of giving our nails a bit of a rest from gel manicures, we did notice our nails started to feel healthier and stronger without them. In fact, there was something quite freeing about being able to switch up our nail colours at home with ease. And although our efforts cannot and will never compare to that of a professional, what we did discover after a year of at-home nail painting is that not all nail polish…
