As soon as the winter weather begins to set in, I immediately find myself questioning how to make each of my outfits as cosy as possible. Of course, the addition of a puffer jacket or a beanie hat can be helpful, and a cashmere scarf doesn’t go unappreciated, but on the footwear front, there always seems to be a lack of shoes that provide that warm, fuzzy feeling.
However, in recent months, just about every major It girl has managed to find a solution to fill the cosy-shaped hole in my footwear rotation. Enter Ugg boots.
Yes, the divisive shoes of the early aughts are back. And while there has been much debate about whether Ugg boots are in fact shoes—much like the debate that questions whether leggings can justifiably be worn as trousers—it is evident that in 2021, anything goes.
Although some might think Uggs are akin to slippers and shouldn’t be worn outside the house, Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber, Emily Ratajkowski and so many others are currently making a case for the contrary. Model after model has been seen sporting the shoes on the streets of New York and L.A., and while some have taken an athleisure approach to the item, others are wearing Uggs alongside dresses, skirts and suits.
