I don’t know about you, but I’m all for party season this year. Ordinarily, I tend to avoid overly loud or statement clothes, but after being denied it in 2020, I’m intent on embracing party dressing in all its high-octane glory. With work dinners, drinks with friends, and lots of reasons to celebrate on the horizon, I’ve been thinking about the sort of thing I’d like to wear for all of the above, and I’ve come to the conclusion that the only thing for it is sparkle.
Although it largely goes against my style DNA, I can’t help but be drawn to all the rhinestone-adorned pieces out there. Nuè is one such brand that has put gemstones on the agenda for 2021, along with Saint Laurent, whose Swarovski-encrusted boots have caught the eye of everyone, from Celine Dion to Hailey Bieber. However, if you’re like me and you want to dip your toe in the sparkle trend without spending a small fortune, might I suggest you turn your attention to Zara, for it has created the perfect sparkly party top for just £30. A little but ‘90s, but in the best possible way, this top reminds me of Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss’s iconic chainmail dresses, but with its sleek bandeau silhouette and ultra-thin straps, it feels exceptionally current.
I initially saw Zara’s sparkly top on-site at the start of last week, and, if I’m honest, I scrolled on past it—what can I say? It just didn’t grab me. However, after spying it on India of The India Edit over the weekend, I realised I had been too hasty. Wearing it with a pair of jeans and an oversized black blazer, India showcased a way to wear rhinestones that strikes the formidable balance of being fancy without teetering on too much. The denim helped to neutralise the shimmer of the top, while the addition of a boxy blazer gave it the cool-girl appeal I’m so here for.
When I went back to snap up the top for myself, I was sad to find it had already sold out—however, I was able to input my email to receive a notification once it was restocked. And today, that email landed in my inbox. Having already been replenished once, I’m willing to bet Zara’s sparkly top will fly once more. If you love it, too, click through to shop it for yourself, then continue on to shop my favourite sparkly buys from Zara, and on the rest of the high-street.
