Katie Holmes Just Wore the Cardigan-and-Jeans Uniform I Can’t Wait to Copy

December 05, 2021 at 08:00AM Leave it to Katie Holmes—the actress who single-handedly blew up the internet when she wore a cashmere cardigan–and-bralette duo from Khaite with vintage denim back in 2019—to debut the finest knit-and-jeans combo of the year thus far. On Monday, Holmes was spotted in New York City wearing what can only be described as my ideal fall look: a white T-shirt, Western boots, a cashmere cardigan and a pair of high-rise jeans that fit just right. Like so many of the Dawson’s Creek alum’s outfits, the look was casual and elevated at the same time, which I can tell you from experience is easier said than done. The real winners from Holmes’s outfit are her jeans (which are mid-wash and straight-leg) and her cardigan (a pink-and-gray knit by Kate Spade New York that is somehow still in stock). Called the Colorblock Cashmere Gallery Cardigan, the two-tone sweater costs £295 and comes in a total…

Fashion Insiders Agree: This Staple Is the Key to Expensive-Looking Outfits

December 05, 2021 at 08:00AM People have many different opinions when it comes to style, but here’s one of the universal truths: Everyone wants their outfits to look expensive. Shopping for frugal items is one thing, but actually looking like you’re wearing something cheap is another, which is why you may have noticed that I talk about deceptively inexpensive basics ad nauseam. Going for minimalist separates is a tried-and-true approach to achieving this goal, but I found another one, courtesy of my feed—faux leather.Of course, it’s a given that genuine leather can instantly level up any outfit, but its faux sibling has come a long way since its stiff, plasticky-looking days. The real thing can be pricey, but with so many high-quality faux-leather and vegan-leather options (I love Nanushka) that feel just as soft and luxurious, who needs it anyway? This is why leather alternatives have become a stylish shortcut to achieving an…

7 Cheap Anti-Ageing Moisturisers That Are Just as Good as These Expensive Ones

December 05, 2021 at 08:00AM Whatever your thoughts on anti-ageing as a term, there’s no denying that moisturisers, which are created to specifically tackle things like fine lines, pigmentation and dryness, can be incredibly expensive due to their potent ingredients and advanced formulations. And while I truly believe that ageing is a privilege we should fully embrace—wrinkles and all—it doesn’t mean that taking good care of our skin as we grow older should cost a small fortune. This is why I’ve made it my mission to seek out anti-ageing products that genuinely work without breaking the bank. I’ve already discovered some brilliant serums and eye creams that rival counterparts with three-figure price tags, but today we’re here to talk about anti-ageing moisturisers—and cheap ones at that.Ahead, keep scrolling to shop seven of the best affordable anti-ageing moisturisers that genuinely hold their own against some of my luxurious favourites. It’s all about ingredients when choosing an efficacious anti-ageing moisturiser,…

19 Hairstyles That Prove Gen Z Are Right About the Excellence of the Middle Part

December 05, 2021 at 06:30AM As a millennial beauty editor, I am often left a little confused (and sometimes infuriated) by some of the things I see on TikTok. Typically, messages that promote using lube as primer or using a banana to apply winged liner aren’t the sorts of things that fill beauty editors with confidence. However, when Gen Z took to TikTok earlier this year to brand side partings as “cheugy,” I wasn’t totally aghast. Personally, I think that flipping your hair over to the side is one of the simplest and most effective ways to elevate and volumise any look. However, I do have to agree that the middle part is a superior way to style your hair.As someone who spent most of her adolescent life straightening her side-parted fringe and spraying can after can of Batiste into the roots to try to get some volume into my obscenely side-parted…

My Mum Is 73 and Loves Expensive Skincare—Here’s Her Review of The Ordinary

December 05, 2021 at 06:30AM By now you all might know my mum. She’s fabulous, she’s 73, and she knows her way around beauty. In fact, she might own more makeup and skincare products than I do—which is equal parts impressive and terrifying. So you can see why she’s the ultimate guinea pig when it comes to trying out the latest, greatest or buzziest products in the biz. I love that we both represent different generations and have different skincare needs and goals (me: breakouts and dark circles; her: fine lines and pigmentation), and I firmly believe bringing in other age demographics for product reviews really ups the ante when it comes to fishing for efficacy. After all, how the heck will someone like me with 26-year-old skin know if an age-pegged serum is helping? Right? Right.Enter The Ordinary, the affordable skincare baby of megabrand Deciem, which launched to a…

This Is How the Coolest Minimalists Are Dressing Now

December 05, 2021 at 06:04AM Now more than ever, the fashion industry is defined by binaries. On the one hand, you have the throw-everything-at-it maximalists, many of whom only exist on our Instagram feeds or are immortalised on the pavements of fashion week. This look is spearheaded by the likes of Alessandro Michele at Gucci and Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga. On the other hand, you have a fashion tribe who are rejecting the noise and clamour of clashing prints and accessory overload and instead embracing a more contemplative approach to dressing. Yes, this is minimalism, but perhaps not as you know it. An aesthetic that has simmered beneath the cultural surface for decades, minimalism has occasionally bubbled up and made its presence felt, but it never really disappeared entirely. It has presented itself in a variety of guises. Think Coco Chanel’s sporty separates, Calvin Klein’s ’90s greyscale and Phoebe Philo's austere post-financial-crash stylings at Celine. It’s one of the few fashion movements…

The Print Trends We’re Going to See Everywhere This Winter

December 05, 2021 at 05:59AM No shade to our beloved neutrals, but prints are all we can think about lately. Sometimes, you simply want to blend in and keep it subtle, but it’s okay to be the centre of attention once in a while. The preferred way among insiders to stand out right now? Grabbing one of the striking prints that have been flittering through the fashion spheres this season. Instead, it was a grab bag of patterns and graphics, from the extreme—see fanciful logos and zebra—to more subdued takes. All in all, everything felt amped up in a way that is fresh and exciting to the eyes. There’s a lot of ground to cover, so sit back and enjoy as we run through the major print trends you can expect to pop…
