Succession Has Mastered the Art of Quiet Luxury

December 14, 2021 at 11:04PM Succession wants you to believe it’s not a show about fashion. The HBO drama (its third season just ended) follows the dysfunctional Roy family, owners of the billion-dollar media conglomerate Waystar RoyCo, led by aging patriarch Logan Roy. A darkly comedic series about the fight for power in a fraught media empire, Succession poignantly portrays the pitfalls of inherited wealth. But between curse-laden sibling squabbles and heated investor calls, you may have wondered why these riches aren’t so obvious in the Roy family’s fashion choices. Photography Courtesy of HBOFan interest in the show’s wardrobe is undeniable, with an Instagram account dedicated to the characters’ outfits accumulating nearly 20,000 followers. This is not to say the Roys are particularly fashion-forward (how many plain black baseball caps does one family need?), but rather, the series’ style secret is about an…

Tom Holland Wore Heels to the Spider-man Premiere

December 14, 2021 at 09:57PM Tom Holland might be headlining Spider-man: No Way Home, but Zendaya has been the star of the red carpets. After a parade of web-slinging events, the CFDA Fashion Icon award winner has worn a slew of web-slinging-inspired outfits. First, the Alexander McQueen oversized blazer and tights, adorned with glittery spider accents. Next, she wore the understated Roberto Cavalli black gown, with reference to Spider-man’s arch-nemesis Doc Ock, in the back. And finally, this past week, the spider of all spider looks arrived: Zendaya’s sheer Maison Valentino dress. View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Valentino (@maisonvalentino) Of course, this is nothing new. Expecting Zendaya NOT to slay a movie premiere is like expecting Chanel NOT to create another tweed suit — it’s impossible. The real surprise of the night came from the superhero himself, Tom…

December 14, 2021 at 08:55PM Emily in Paris’s Ashley Park and Lily Collins are here to hype us up for season two of the Netflix series, where their characters Mindy and Emily will continue to be high fashion besties. Clearly, the tight relationship remains solid offscreen too, as both actors posted shots from their day of press in luxury designer pieces. While Collins wore a full look straight off the fall 2021 Celine runway, sourced by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, Park, styled by Erin Walsh, coordinated a strong-shouldered double-breasted Balmain blazer with a kelly green minidress, gold chainlink necklace, Versace Virtus bag, and Thom Browne oxford platforms. “Hundreds of hours clocked with @lilyjcollins these past weeks… and each one better than the last truly đź’š,” she captioned her photo, confirming that the duo enjoy promoting EIP just as much as it seems.…

The Surprisingly Gendered History of the Vest

December 14, 2021 at 08:58PM The vest has been making its return for some time now. In recent years, it’s been spotted on the runway, and models like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid have been sporting a reimagined version of the garment sans undershirt. And while you might associate this street style staple with the fashion of the early aughts, its lineage can actually be traced back to the 17th century, when King Charles II of England introduced the garment as part of “correct dress” for men (as fashion embraces the Regencycore aesthetic, it’s only fitting that the vest – and its royal lineage – follow suit). The unassuming top would later symbolize rebellion against ideas of gendered clothing, today exuding a stylish aura of androgynous comfort. Its appeal is in its versatility. When worn tightly with nothing underneath (Ă  la model off duty),…

Sure, Zendaya’s Slinky Chain Top Is Sexy, but We’re More Enthralled by Her Wild Cargo Pants

December 14, 2021 at 05:15PM Everyone’s busy talking about Zendaya’s beaded cobweb dress at the Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home - and rightfully so; have you seen it?! - but earlier that day, the actress stunned in an equally as head-turning outfit that should not be overlooked. While heading to film a Jimmy Kimmel Live interview with Tom Holland on Dec. 13, Zendaya took a break from dipping into Law Roach’s vintage fashion archives and wore a straight-off-the-runway look from Balmain’s spring 2022 collection. Though her sheer metallic tank top was an instant attention-grabber, with its delicate gold chains strung together to create a ruched effect, we were more occupied by dissecting her intriguing white pantsuit. Both the oversize blazer and cargo pants of Zendaya’s suit featured long strips of extra fabric that trailed behind and grazed the ground as…

These 4 High Street Coats Look So Expensive

December 14, 2021 at 04:23PM It is now officially very cold, and so a reliable winter coat is an absolute essential. While a MaxMara or Toteme coat will always be my dream purchase, I’ve been really impressed by some of the tailored, wool coats that have been on offer on the high street recently. The key to an expensive-looking coat really is the silhouette. Think oversized, falling on the ankles and with plenty of room on the body so you can layer it over a chunky knit. There are four high street coats in particular that really stand out right now and all have this structure, and are either in ecru, grey and navy. My favourite is a stone-coloured overcoat from & Other Stories, closely followed by a black and white chevron-print coat from Zara. If you’re still on the great coat hunt, keep…

There Is an Invisible String Leading Me to Taylor Swift’s Golden Birthday Dress

December 14, 2021 at 04:29PM Taylor Swift had a birthday party with her “Sagittarius queen” bestie Alana Haim to celebrate their 32nd and 30th birthdays, respectively. Posting pictures from the event, Taylor promised fans they tested everyone for COVID beforehand and also made a cute reference to her song “22”: “*don’t say it, don’t say it OKAY I’m saying it:* I’M FEELIN 32.” Of course, if you’re a Swiftie, you might also be concerned with the gold sequin dress she was wearing, which has caused quite the stir on Twitter. Teamed with her signature red lip, what on earth could the look be signifying? The world knows that anything Taylor shares with fans usually packs a hidden meaning, so we’ve all taken note of this style move. “Taylor swift didn’t wear this gold dress on her b'day for y'all to say she is…

The Fashion Moments That Defined 2021

December 14, 2021 at 02:10PM This was the year that reignited our love for fashion. After the truly heinous 2020 - a deeply traumatizing year that gave us all emotional and mental scars - 2021 felt like a cautious step closer to being OK again. There was a collective feeling of “We all made it through the worst of it!” A global exhale of sorts that felt OK (or at least a little more OK) enough to celebrate silly, superficial things like fashion and pop culture again. Red carpets were back! It was OK to laugh at memes! Fashion Weeks returned! Celebrity couple debuts were no longer relegated to just Instagram posts, so we were allowed to celebrate Bennifer 2.0 the way we were truly meant to: through glorious paparazzi yacht pics from Saint-Tropez! Designers pivoted from cozy, homebound, tie-dye sweatsuits into ultra-aesthetics…
