TikTokers Roast Euphoria’s Nonexistent High School Dress Code

January 19, 2022 at 11:39PM Euphoria’s East Highland High School enrolled a whole new crop of students this month - on TikTok, that is. Following the HBO show’s season two premiere, fans are suiting up in outfits that poke fun at the fictional high school’s entirely nonexistent dress code, and it’s shaping up to be our favorite TikTok trend of 2022 to date. Most of the videos follow the same format: the creator comes on camera wearing something casual and unassuming, like sweatpants and a hoodie, just as we hear audio of Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants yelling, “And why aren’t you in uniform?!” They then squeakily backpedal and return in a more appropriate getup - usually something risquĂ©, cropped, and/or covered in cutouts. While most of the inspired looks flooding TikTok are purposefully exaggerated, they’re not too far from what we’ve seen Maddy…

As a Black Fashion Editor, I Have People Like André Leon Talley to Thank For My Dreams

January 19, 2022 at 10:02PM It can be difficult to mourn someone you never met, but when that person’s had a major impact on your life, their death becomes your loss, too. Though we never actually met, I first encountered AndrĂ© Leon Talley years ago on the front row of fashion’s most prestigious runway shows, seated next to none other than Anna Wintour. I had to know who the lone (and flamboyantly dressed) Black editor who accompanied the industry’s most prominent figure to these rarefied events was. Here was this boy from Durham, NC, who grew up with his grandmother during the Jim Crow era and became the highest-ranking editor in fashion history. His story filled me with hope and optimism. As a young child in Haiti, I filled notebooks with fashion sketches and wrote diary entries about my goal to make it…

We Have Questions About the New Squid Game Clothing Collab

January 19, 2022 at 10:07PM There’s a distinctive joy in reliving the excitement of a piece of media — be it a film, series or video game — in the clothing you wear. Netflix gets this, having struck fashionable partnerships with fan-favourite series like Bridgerton and Emily in Paris. Its newest is a collaboration is between Japanese streetwear clothing brand A Bathing Ape (BAPE) and the streamer’s most-viewed show to date, Squid Game. The dystopian series, which premiered in September 2021, follows a group of debt-ridden characters who, out of desperation, enter a seemingly harmless competition with a simple premise: play traditional children’s games for the chance to win a cash prize. But after a game of Statues, the players learn that there can only be one winner, and all those who eliminated from the game are murdered — it’s really graphic, FYI.…

7 Unique Engagement Ring Trends For 2022 That Exceed the Obvious

January 19, 2022 at 08:30PM 2022 is ushering in a new bridal trends, lineup of fresh engagement ring shapes that run the gamut from unique in design to striking in color. We talked to some of the world’s most prominent jewelers, and the trendsetters behind smaller brands, to see what clients have been requesting. It seems like big oval shapes, fancy cut accents, and multi-stones are definitely sticking around. And, rather than finding the iciest diamond in the case, people are instead prioritizing sentimental value or personal, hidden touches that make their sparklers stand out. That’s where color comes in. When you consider the fact that no two stones are alike, you may want to source your own emerald, sapphire, or ruby to highlight your originality. Finally, don’t underestimate the androgynous appeal of a thick band, decorated in embellishments (or not) in place…

J Lo Taps Into the Matrix-Style Trend With Risqué Leather Bra-Top

January 19, 2022 at 06:15PM Leave it to Jennifer Lopez to own any fashion trend, from Western-inspired style to most recently, the bra-top infused with a Matrix-style sensibility. In a recent Instagram post, the singer donned a skin-tight criscross leather bra-top that is as sharp as her fashion taste. It is clear by now that the 52-year-old multi-hyphenate isn’t one to shy away from bold skin reveals (who can forget the iconic Versace moment), and she wears everything with a decidedly feminine and confident attitude. This time was no different, and we’re suddenly ready for spring. She paired the bra-top with white paperbag waist trousers cinched around the waist, creating a nice visual contrast. Multiple necklaces, rings and bracelets embellished the actress’s neck, all from BVLGARI’s iconic Serpenti, B.zero1 and Divas’ Dream collection. This elevated fashion moment was complete with a cropped modern…

TikTok Got Me To Try a Pair of Cameltoe-Proof Underwear- and They Actually Work

January 19, 2022 at 06:10PM I’m just going to come right out and say it: it’s time to talk about cameltoes. We’ve all been there at one point or another- we slip on our favorite pair of workout leggings and running shoes, only to look in the mirror and see that we can see much more than we bargained for. Namely, the outline of our labia majora. While some of us may have no problem with the idea of showing a little extra, others might not feel so comfortable. I am firmly stationed in the latter camp, which is why when I first heard about Jiv Athletic’s Cameltoe Proof High Rise Thong ($34), I knew I had to get my hands on a pair immediately. Like most good things in my life, I discovered the existence of cameltoe-proof underwear while scrolling through my…

André Leon Talley, the former influential Vogue editor, dies at 73

January 19, 2022 at 04:57PM AndrĂ© Leon Talley, who died January 18 at age 73, was the poster boy for a bygone era of fashion media, when the focus was on designers and their craft, and when knowledge of fashion history was a valued asset. “He was a one man style encyclopedia,” Toronto writer Shinan Govani declared on Instagram to mark the death of AndrĂ© Leon Talley. Photography courtesy of Rose Hartman/Getty ImagesWhen he was travelling the runway circuit as an editor for American Vogue, Talley’s assessment of a collection was often a lesson in fashion history, with references to Cristobal Balenciaga’s innovative silhouettes, or how Yves Saint Laurent revolutionized women’s dress. His observations were always delivered with excitement and appreciation, rather than the dry tone of an academic. Everything was, “Fabulous,…
