These Cult Boots Have Been Best Sellers for Over 60 Years

January 27, 2022 at 05:40AM Having spent years training myself in the art of trend-hunting and It item–spotting, I could say confidently that I’m certain Dr. Martens boots are more popular than ever. In 2019, the heritage footwear brand reported double-digit growth (revenue stacks up now to a pretty cool ÂŁ454.4 million—NBD), and that translates very visibly into just how often I spot girls wearing Docs on the pavements of my home city of London as well as on my Instagram feed, within celebrity echelons and in street style galleries. Each month, more than 12,000 people in the UK search for “Dr. Martens boots,” and that’s before you start analysing all of the breakout search terms for specific styles shoppers are looking for, like Sinclair or Jadon. According to Google Trends, there’s a noticeable spike during November and December. When the cold weather strikes, DMs really come…

Fashion Hack From Margot Robbie: An AirPods Case Can Double as a Purse

January 26, 2022 at 11:40PM Just when we thought the micro bag trend was finally laid to rest, Margot Robbie resurrected it with a twist we didn’t see coming. While attending Chanel’s haute couture spring/summer 2022 show at Paris Fashion Week, the actor seemingly previewed her forthcoming “Barbie” movie role by toting along a teeny-tiny purse that’s actually, upon further inspection, an AirPods case. Same same, but different, right? The bag in question looks like most Chanel designs, with a quilted leather exterior and a chainlink crossbody strap, but it appeared to have encountered the shrinking machine from Disney’s “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.” Measuring less than 3 inches in both length and height, the miniature accessory begs the question: What on earth did Robbie have stored inside? We doubt she brought actual AirPods along for the show, but it’s also hard to…

Are Mismatched Shoes the New Style Trend? Paris Hilton Says, “That’s Hot”

January 26, 2022 at 10:00PM As Paris Hilton spoke to host Jimmy Fallon about her wedding and current projects on “The Tonight Show”, her shimmery lime green dress popped boldly on screen. The choice of her stylist Sammy K, the Giuseppe di Morabito design featured a turtleneck and a thigh-high slit that showcased her toned legs. As we appreciated this skin reveal moment, we also couldn’t help but notice the entrepreneur’s slightly mismatched shoes. On the right foot she wore a simple Giuseppe Zanotti nude pump, while the left foot feature another nude pump but with sparkles adorning the heel and toe. Was this an intentional wardrobe malfunction? It definitely made for lighthearted, good-natured banter. Or was she just rushing to get out of the hotel? Host Jimmy Fallon wondering the same thing as he poked fun at the wrong shoes in an…

Asian Designers to Shop From This Lunar New Year

January 26, 2022 at 07:47PM Lunar New Year is just around the corner. Whether you’re celebrating with family, friends or roommates, it’s tradition to wear something new to signify a fresh start for the new year. This coming year is the Year of Tiger, which symbolizes strength, bravery and loyalty. In particular, if this is your “birth sign year” (people born in 2010, 1998, 1986, etc.), wearing red (specifically red underwear) could shield you from bad luck. Although many fashion labels have come out with special collections in celebration of the Lunar New Year, many have noted the holiday’s commercialization by Western brands. With the increasing buying power and visibility of the Asian population, in North America or abroad, its impossible to ignore the tremendous talent from this group of people that have long been overlooked. From established names like Issey Miyake, Vera…

6 Canadian Actors We’re Excited to See On Our Screens This Year

January 26, 2022 at 06:17PM Arguably, the best part about a new year is all the movies and TV shows you can look forward to watching. As someone who tends to work a lot, the fictional on-screen world is my favourite form of escapism — and over the years, I’ve become quite the film and TV buff. I love to watch movies in the theatre, stay updated on all the latest releases and, most importantly, discover new Canadian actors (or continue obsessing over my current favourites). If you’re anything like me but just can’t find the time to stay up to date on what’s cool right now, allow me to help out. Here’s a round-up of Canadian women to look out for on the small and big screen this year. With some fan-favourite faces and some making their first debut, there’s a little…

Lily James’s Latest Red Carpet Outfit Is 99% Cutouts

January 26, 2022 at 05:30PM We’ve seen a plethora of cutout dresses, cutout swimsuits, and even cutout pants on the celebrity style circuit as of late, but a cutout blazer? Now that, folks, is a first in our book. Lily James made a strong case for the unexpected trend during a Pam & Tommy press event on Jan. 25, and now we have no choice but to hop on board. The 32-year-old actor, who portrays Pamela Anderson in the upcoming Hulu series, seemingly paid homage to Anderson’s sultry style, wearing a pink blazer with so many crisscrossed openings, it resembled a fashionable cage of sorts. Playing peek-a-boo underneath was a silver corset-style minidress embellished with crystals and covered in - you guessed it - even more cutouts. Styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray, James’s two-piece set hails from Atelier Versace’s fall/winter 2021 collection. She finished…

The Penny Lane Coat is the Ultimate Y2K Winter Staple

January 26, 2022 at 02:21PM There aren’t many things that get me excited about enduring a long, cold winter, but a Penny Lane coat is one of them. The cozy garment, with its signature furry lapels and cuffs, has long been a winter style staple. First invented in Afghanistan around the 1920s, it became known as the Afghan coat. By the late 1960s, the garment was a trademark of the hippie fashion scene in the west. But we have the 2000 dramedy Almost Famous, starring Kate Hudson as Penny Lane, to thank for solidifying the coat as a Y2K favourite. I’m a Firm Believer in Statement Jackets, and This Mango Buy is Just So Good

January 26, 2022 at 11:18AM Someone once asked me the one item of clothing I would most recommend investing in. Perhaps expecting me to say a basic, she was surprised when I replied: a statement jacket. Yes, this isn’t something that will necessarily fit into everyone's wardrobe, but for me it’s the one thing I turn to again and again. It’s by far the easiest way to add personality to the clean-lined staples sitting in my wardrobe. Well, this week I stumbled across a Mango jacket that could not be a better example of the power of souped-up outwear.Coming in a cosy faux fur fabric, delicate shade of pale yellow and simple silhouette, I couldn’t help but fall in love with it the moment I saw it on the site. My suspicions were confirmed when trend-setter Blanca Miro was snapped in the jacket on her Instagram feed (styled with a very cool pair of animal print…
