This $35 Old Navy Button-Down Was My Smartest Purchase in a While

March 17, 2022 at 09:20PM Scroll through my Pinterest feed, and you’ll see an overabundance of fashion girls clad in white button-down shirts. Occasionally, I come across the versatile top tucked into a pair of jeans or trousers - or perhaps paired with a satin skirt for a more elevated vibe. As obsessed as I’ve been with these ‘fits, I never actually purchased a white button-down - until now. A big part of my job is scouring Old Navy for products destined to become bestsellers, so I decided to give the brand’s Oversized Boyfriend Long-Sleeve Shirt ($35) a try. The price was right, and it had a ton of great reviews - including one that praised the shirt for being “so comfortable.” I value comfort as much as aesthetics, so you can bet that’s what convinced me to add the piece to my…

Tom Hiddleston Proposed to Zawe Ashton With This Timeless Halo Engagement Ring

March 17, 2022 at 07:20PM Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton are getting married, and the engagement ring is quite the sight to behold. The former Broadway costars sparked engagement rumors at the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards on March 13 when Ashton walked the red carpet wearing a giant diamond ring on her left hand, and their impending nuptials have since been confirmed. A zoomed-in look at Ashton’s ring reveals that Hiddleston forewent popular trends in favor of a more timeless, classic style. A large circular diamond is surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds and situated on what appears to be a gold tapered band. Between the central stone and its adjoined halo, the ring nearly takes up the width of her entire finger and is pretty hard to miss. As it turns out, the BAFTAs wasn’t the first time Ashton stepped out…

Union’s family off screen supported her in style, all of them coordinating for the occasion. Katie Holmes Just Wore the Flat Shoes French Women Live In

March 17, 2022 at 12:00PM I might not have much in common with Katie Holmes, but we are the same height (5'9"), so I have a feeling she could relate to my neverending quest to find flats that are actually cute. But tall girls are far from the only people who want the practicality of flats without sacrificing style. French girls like Leia Sfez and Tamara Mory, for instance, love Chanel’s iconic slingback flats, but they can be considerably out of reach for the average shopper—that’s why I was excited to see Holmes wearing slingbacks that have the same vibe. Photographed in New York City, Holmes wore Kate Spade New York Veronica Slingback Flats (ÂŁ190), which come in four different colours. Holmes paired her white versions with a beautiful butterfly-bedecked dress, also by Kate Spade New York. As we’ve already identified, flat slingback shoes are a footwear favourite amongst French women,…

How Olympian Sarah Nurse Keeps Her Skin Looking Good on the Road

March 17, 2022 at 11:30AM Sarah Nurse first popped up on most Canadians’ radar (and that of hockey fans worldwide) at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. It didn’t hurt that she scored the winning goal against Team Canada’s perennial rival, the United States, during their preliminary match-up. Nurse and her teammates would ultimately go on to bring home a silver medal after losing the gold medal game in a tiebreaker shootout with the United States. Even more national headlines followed when Drake gave her a shout-out in a congratulatory Instagram story. However, as any decorated athlete knows, the road to Olympic glory isn’t all proud headlines and dreamy DMs. Even though Sarah Nurse has been skating since she was three and has collected several accolades, including a gold medal at last year’s IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship, she still…

Has Fashion Finally Found its Sense of Humour?

March 17, 2022 at 11:30AM For the third look of her Spring 2022 show, Puppets and Puppets creative director Carly Mark sent headwear resembling giant blocks of Emmenthal and Parmesan down the runway, and, no, this was not an early April Fool’s joke. A proud Midwesterner (born in Detroit), the designer told Vogue she sought to make “her own artisanal Green Bay Packers cheesehead.” But the assortment that followed on the catwalk perhaps warrants more of a tacky tablescape comparison, as models earnestly sported tinsel scarves, fruitpatterned shirts, bags decorated with croissants and dresses accentuated with tea saucers. Puppets and Puppets. Photography courtesy of ImaxtreeWhile the obvious inclination is to label the designer a fashionable oddball or outlier, this kitschy foray into fromage wasn’t the strangest thing on the runways; comical couture dominated the spring season. Fashion, it would seem, has a new…

Bilal Baig Teases Romance and Fun for Sort Of Season Two

March 17, 2022 at 11:30AM Bilal Baig moved into a new apartment in Toronto a few months ago and apologizes for “the mess.” But there isn’t much visible on my computer screen, even when Baig takes me on a video tour. They show me the yellow walls in the living room, purple in the kitchen, and the art by Harmeet Rehal and Meera Sethi they haven’t had time to hang because Sort Of, the CBC and HBO Max original comedy written by Baig and Fab Filippo, has been renewed for season two and shooting starts this spring. Photography courtesy of CBC/Keri AndersonSince launching last fall, the show has been hailed for breaking barriers – from its normalized portrayal of trans people to Baig being the first queer South Asian Muslim actor in a Canadian primetime series. Unlike that other CBC show with an…
