Hold My Champagne – Is Anybody Else in Love With Billie Eilish’s *Second* Met Gala Dress?

September 15, 2021 at 10:15PM Celebrities left it all on the Met Gala steps on Sunday: romantic gowns, elaborate but inspiring ensembles, and even golden robot armor. But inside the venue, a few attendees took the opportunity to wear a second outfit just as extravagant as the first. For Met Gala cochair Billie Eilish, who played on this year’s “American Fashion” theme with a Marilyn Monroe-inspired ballgown, it only made sense to stick with her Old Hollywood inspiration and change into a wine-colored Oscar de la Renta cape dress. Like something straight off of a Hollywood red carpet from the 1950s, Billie’s dress featured a corset-style bodice, a ruffled hem, and a flowing chiffon skirt with a thigh-high slit that gave us another peek at the tattoo on her right leg. The complementary sheer cape was fastened at the base of her throat…

The Met Gala Was Full of Powerful Queer Meaning

September 15, 2021 at 10:16PM Since the coveted return of the Met Gala on September 13, the internet is still buzzing about how guests interpreted and executed this year’s theme of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”  Some outfit designs had spelled-out messages (literally), like congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who wore a gown by Canadian designer Aurora James with the words “Tax the Rich” splashed on the back. Or model Cara Delevingne who sported a Dior power suit that featured the statement “Peg the Patriarchy.” (That phrase that was reportedly first coined by Toronto-based designer Luna Matatas and used without her consent …yikes). Other attendees, however, came donning designs that had more imaginative meanings. Queer history is an inseparable part of America, and fortunately, many LGBTQ+ used that to inspire them on the Met Gala red carpet. There was no shortage of queer excellence…

Meet the TikTok-Favorite Met Gala Dress . . . That Never Made It to the Red Carpet

September 15, 2021 at 09:34PM When sustainable fashion designer Anna Molinari initially created a dress made out of newspaper headlines she’d collected from March 2020 to March 2021, she wanted it to serve as both a memorial to all of those we’ve lost and a reminder that there is still much work to be done. But one viral TikTok and one Met Gala later, people are dubbing the dress their favorite Met Gala look this year - and it wasn’t even worn at the event. The incredible dress - or work of art, as many TikTokers have called it - features a fully boned corset, a mesh turtleneck that can be worn over the mouth and nose, and a cold-shoulder cutout for the vaccine, all made of recycled newspapers covering the good, bad, and ugly happening in America, from COVID-19 to the Black…

If RosĂ©’s Met Gala Dress Looks Familiar, It’s Because Another Icon Just Wore It

September 15, 2021 at 09:25PM RosĂ©’s Met Gala debut was certainly one to remember. The Blackpink member and solo artist, who was one of the first two female K-pop stars to be invited in the event’s history - the other being CL - walked the red carpet alongside Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello, wearing a piece from the designer’s winter 2021 collection. If the little black dress with a large white bow happened to look familiar, that’s because Zendaya wore the exact piece on the cover of British Vogue’s October issue. But while the two may be rocking the same dress, the stars exude completely different vibes. RosĂ©, who’s a Saint Laurent ambassador, chose light graphic eye makeup, a large floral choker, and dangly earrings to go with her look, while Zendaya opted for minimal jewelry and smoky dark eyes. See how…

Why Aren’t More Fashion Brands Designing Adaptive Clothing?

September 15, 2021 at 08:10PM Image Source: Courtesy of Slick Chicks / Roohi Photography “The first thing we do in our day is put on our undergarments and not all of us put them on one leg at a time,” says Helya Mohammadian, founder and CEO of adaptive underwear brand, Slick Chicks told POPSUGAR. “People have different experiences and some people need help changing.” Sure, there are a handful of brands with adaptive collections, or clothing designed around the needs and abilities of people with varying degrees of disability - there’s Nike, which produced the first ever hands-free sneaker, Go FlyEase, that allows wearers to slip feet in without zipping, tying or velcroing closed; ASOS created the first wheelchair-friendly jumpsuit back in 2018; and Target and Tommy Hilfiger sell adaptive clothing. But when one in four US adults have a disability, and diversity…
