This Simple Dress Trend Is Going to be Huge This Party Season

September 17, 2021 at 06:00AM Typically, when I see that Alexa Chung has posted another outfit pic on Instagram, my reaction looks something like the army-pants-and-flip-flops girl’s scene in Mean Girls. So yes, I saw Alexa Chung wearing a lace slip dress to a party, and now I want to wear a lace slip dress to a party. The dress in question wasn’t labeled, but knowing Chung’s penchant for vintage pieces, I assumed that it was a secondhand find. The same can be said of the stunning mint green number spotted on influencer and vintage seller Pernille Rosenkilde. I sense a trend emerging.Christmas-party season might feel like a long way away right now, but considering how quickly August has gone by, it won’t be long before we’re all on the hunt for something shiny for the work do (it’s been way too long). Incidentally,…

Everyone I Know Buys Their Vintage Jewellery From These 5 Places

September 17, 2021 at 05:00AM I can only speak for myself, but up until about five years ago, I didn’t wear vintage jewellery. It used to be the kind of thing I’d only buy in a panicked fashion when I needed a bejewelled headband for a ’30s-inspired murder-mystery costume. Ideally, it had to be inexpensive, as it was a one-off, and I’d never wear it again. Thanks to plenty of trends coming back around (from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s), as well as people being more mindful about shopping sustainably (myself included), the vintage jewellery market is booming. And plenty of fashion editors I know are shopping at various places for key pieces. One major destination for the fashion crowd is Susan Caplan. The eponymous brand was launched in 2008, and it now boasts one of the biggest vintage jewellery collections in the UK.Pictured: Susan…

Law Roach Is Hollywood’s Favorite Stylist – Here’s a Rundown of His Best Looks

September 17, 2021 at 01:30AM From the red carpet to carefully curated street style, celebrity outfits often end up the catalyst of consumer fashion trends and even the inspiration points for designers. Behind the scenes though, there’s an entire glam deserving of accolades and a stylist whose job it is to create those showstopping looks. As far as game changing celebrity stylists go, the Chicago-born self-proclaimed “image architect” Law Roach ranks high as one to watch, though with the star-studded client roster he’s racked up, you’ve probably already been paying attention. Before becoming an industry mogul, Roach first ran his own vintage boutique, where, he told Fashionista, a customer would serendipitously lead him to meet who would become his biggest styling client, a then 14-year-old Zendaya. Fast forward ten years, and Roach’s relationship with the actor is still going strong. “You come in…

Okay — Let’s Talk About The Nicki Minaj Vaccine Twitter Debacle

September 16, 2021 at 09:55PM Nothing gets the internet talking quite like inflated testicles. That’s the latest falsely claimed Covid-19 vaccine side effect that has been gaining widespread attention, thanks to pop culture titan Nicki Minaj. We didn’t want to engage in this objectively messy topic, but the situation has resulted in international furor — multiple global health experts and even the U.S. White House have gotten involved — so we feel we have to. It’s important to debunk false information, especially when it’s coming from someone like Minaj, who has substantial social media platforms (22.7 million Twitter followers, to be exact). After tweeting false information about the Covid-19 vaccine earlier this week and angering a slew of health officials, Nicki Minaj was contacted by the U.S. White House, who offered to put her in touch with a doctor to discuss vaccine safety.…

Aurora James Takes Centre Stage as the CFDA Fashion Awards Return In-Person

September 16, 2021 at 09:55PM The fashion world has been anything but boring this week — VMAs, TIFF and Met Gala, we’re looking at you. To continue this wave of excitement, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has just announced the nominees and honorees for the upcoming 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards. Aside from the official news that the ceremony will be happening in person (!) on November 10 after being held digitally in 2020, the equally exciting announcement is that Canadian designer Aurora James will be taking the spotlight with both an honour and a nomination. Gabrielle Union Is the Walking Definition of Glamleisure in This Stella McCartney Outfit

September 16, 2021 at 09:35PM Is Gabrielle Union’s look not the most cozy-meets-glam, post-party outfit you’ve ever seen? Following her night out at the Met Gala, for which she wore Iris Van Herpen to celebrate American Fashion, Gab turned to UK’s Stella McCartney for a sustainable press look while promoting her new book You Got Anything Stronger? in NYC. The coordinates come from the brand’s Resort 2022 collection and were teamed with Amina Muaddi’s iconic sculpted slingbacks. The brooch embellishment on the pointed toe perfectly accented Gab’s rhinestone miniskirt, which came with a boudoir twist - a lacy trim along the side slit. While her bottom pieces were delicate and feminine, a tough, sporty Sherpa like this blue Stella one shows she can incorporate two different vibes into one look. And if she can, we can. That was our thought process, anyway, when…

Issa Rae Is the Queen of Casual Style on Insecure, and These Outfits Prove It

September 16, 2021 at 08:30PM From the moment I started watching Insecure, I was drawn not only to the relatable characters, but I also found myself patiently waiting to see what Issa Rae would wear on each episode. She’s the co-creator and the lead of the of the hit HBO show, and in case you need a little refresher (or you’re not watching yet - and, which case, what are you waiting for?!), the show centers around Issa’s life as she navigates love, career, and friendship in LA. With the fifth and final season slated to premiere on HBO on Oct. 24, we’re looking back at Issa’s onscreen style evolution. Overall, Issa’s wardrobe is full of pieces that feature bold prints and colorful patterns. There are also a ton of vintage pieces, like old Levi’s acid-washed jeans, printed blazers, and political tees. As…
