The Throwback Top Trend I’m Fully Invested in This Autumn

September 21, 2021 at 07:00AM For 2021, my aim is to be as self-disciplined as possible when it comes to trends. While I think designers should keep pushing towards a more timeless approach to design that prioritises longevity, it can be too easy to demonise the concept of trends as a whole. Ultimately, reinvention is what makes fashion so exciting. The key is to just focus on styles that remain true to your personal style and that don’t run the risk of being worn once and then discarded. With this lens in place, I’ve been passing my eye over the trends that are coming up for autumn/winter 2021 and making a shortlist of styles that I feel will slip into my pre-existing wardrobe with ease. My first point of call? The waistcoat.I would forgive you for experiencing ‘90s and noughties flashbacks at the sight of a waistcoat, but this isn’t Sienna Miller’s and Kate Moss’s…

The Only Designer Bags You’ll Need to Know in 2021

September 21, 2021 at 06:30AM Distinctly at odds with our voracious buying of tracksuits, puffer coats, pyjamas, track-soled boots and house dresses, the past year has also seen a sharp increase in the volume of über-luxurious designer and heritage handbags that style-conscious consumers are investing in. It was an unexpected result considering handbags have been of little to no use for so many people of late, but the message from high-fashion stores is that shoppers have used this time to finally take the plunge and pick up their “forever” bags.Where contemporary handbag brands had previously been flourishing thanks to their cool trend-led designs at equally cool mid-ranging price points, 2020 led many to really think about purchasing even more sensibly in order to secure items that will stand the test of time—maybe the pieces they’re going for already have. We've witnessed a return to the classics just within our own wardrobes,…

We Asked the Experts—These Are the Defining Interior Trends Right Now

September 21, 2021 at 06:09AM There are many things we’re looking to leave behind us after the pandemic, but our obsession with interiors isn’t one of them. For many of us, our homes became our places of work as well as our havens of rest. As such, it’s understandable that elevating our spaces was a huge priority. Still, that doesn’t mean that your quest to achieve interior nirvana needs to be over. With each passing season, fresh interior trends emerge, and that’s certainly the case right now. With our interest piqued, we decided to ask those in the know what they think the best big 2021 interior trends will be. We consulted Charmaine White, founder and interior designer at The White House Interiors; Matthew Tranter, founder of architectural and interior visualisation studio Pillar Visuals; and Sophie Elliott and Cloe Bueso, co-founders of The Sette, to find out how we should be decorating our homes at…

7 Joyful Trends London’s Coolest People Are Wearing

September 21, 2021 at 06:06AM We are a little biased, but London Fashion Week really does bring out the most inspiring street style sightings. Being a city already full to the brim with subcultures and countercultures that have been embraced by, and helped to shape, the fashion landscape in this country, it’s the kind of place where wearing something outside of the norm is celebrated rather than judged. Play it safe, and you may as well go play in another postcode, pal. With an elongated pause due to COVID, the arrival of LFW in all its rad-outfit glory was a joyful sight to behold. Those in attendance kindly brought out the new-season big guns no matter what the weather held—a factor that is always less reliable than the week prior in sunny NYC but actually provides a prompt for creativity, IMHO. And although the schedule, pavements and event spaces weren't entirely returned…

15 Haircuts That Will Trick People Into Thinking You Have 3 Times More Hair

September 21, 2021 at 06:00AM Ever since I became aware of my hair back in high school when I finally retired my beloved slick ponytail, I’ve lamented my fine, thin locks. And after becoming a beauty editor, it’s become my mission to find out which haircuts are best for feigning the look of fuller, thicker hair. Here’s what I’ve learned: it’s all about the optical illusions your stylist creates in addition to how you care for and maintain your cut at home.Ted Gibson is one of the most well-renowned hair stylists in the industry—which is no surprise when his client list reads like a who’s who of celebrity royalty. From Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyong'o to Anne Hathaway and Gabrielle Union, Gibson has tended to the tresses of some of the biggest names in the business. And he was more than happy to give me the…

I’m a Beauty Editor, and This Is the One Skincare Rule I Never Break

September 21, 2021 at 06:00AM When it comes to beauty “rules”, I have to come clean: Despite being a beauty editor, I don’t really have much time for them. Whether it’s skipping bold eye shadow while you’re wearing a bright lipstick, avoiding face oils if you have oily skin, or steering clear of glitter and shimmer if you’re over the age of 25—these old-fashioned takes on how you should (or more oftentimes shouldn’t) enjoy experimenting with beauty products are frankly passé. Instead, I prefer to embrace a more exuberant approach to beauty by mixing-and-matching the products that bring me joy. Sure, there might be some misses along the way but there’s fun to be found in the trial-and-error of playing with different colours and textures—despite what the rule book might say. However, having said all that, there are a couple of expert-approved beauty rules that I wholeheartedly get…

This High-Street Autumn Drop Is Guaranteed to Put a Smile on Your Face

September 21, 2021 at 06:00AM During the autumn months, our wardrobes tend to become a sea of beiges, browns and blacks, and while we will always love the enduring appeal of a minimalist colour palette, now more than ever, we’re craving endorphins in fashion form. Well, this season, Monki is the place to go for feel-good style, whether you’re looking for paintbox brights, psychedelic prints or elevated accessories. While many of the below fall into the fun fashion camp, it certainly does not mean that they lack in longevity. After all, some of my favourite wardrobe heroes come in a lively print or standout hue. I’m thinking that Monki’s green button-up midi dress would look unbelievably chic with a classic camel coat and brown boots or even layered over jeans for a more unexpected A/W 21 spin. The colourful base layers are also a highlight, coming in everything from leopard print to Barbie pink. I…

I Always Get So Many Compliments When I Wear This £4 Eyeliner

September 21, 2021 at 06:00AM Over the past year, my makeup skills have definitely improved. While I thought numerous lockdowns and being secluded in my flat would mean forgoing makeup entirely, I actually took the time to brush up on my skills, and I think that having a steadier hand when applying eyeliner, blending my eye shadow and buffing in blush has proved worthwhile. After all, I’m not claiming to be makeup-artist good, but I’ve definitely noticed an influx of compliments about my makeup from strangers when I’ve been out recently—an undeniable confidence boost! However, I noticed that there was one product in particular that was continually catching people’s eyes whenever I wore it. And, contrary to what you might think, it’s one of the most affordable makeup products on the market. I’m a true believer in the fact that just because a product is expensive, it doesn’t mean it’ll…

5 High-Street Pieces I’ve Bookmarked From London Fashion Week

September 21, 2021 at 05:17AM Although there is more Bottega available than one street style photographer can capture alone, you’ll also find that the attendees of London Fashion Week like to wear pieces from the high street as much as the next human being. The difference is, perhaps, that editors, buyers and the like have a little more experience when it comes to choosing the affordable items that really look expensive and really do last. As a discerning bunch, we’re pretty averse to throwaway fashion or wearing something only once, so the time spent behind selecting key items from cheaper stores is something you can all benefit from. We’ve done a great deal of the trawling, the trying and the sending back to feel confident in what we do actually recommend. The street style trends at LFW have been a mixture of luxe basics (think summer’s beige-trouser trend…
