Three Creatives On How Their Childhood Style Icons Influenced Their Look

October 29, 2021 at 02:00PM The pop stars and actors we idolize as kids have a huge influence on our grown-up sense of style. They model confidence and character, and show us that we have the power to create our own unique looks—no matter who we are or where we come from. We connected with three Canadian LGBTQ2S+ creatives to discuss how their style icons informed who they are (and how they wear their hair) today. People would say that she was rude, but she was just outspoken. I always liked that. I would beg my mom to do my hair like her. Looking back, I feel like Scary Spice…

October 29, 2021 at 06:20PM Winter is coming and, as tempting as it may be to hide out inside with hot cocoa forever, it’s likely no more reasonable than wishing to turn back time to June. Sure, holiday planning can be fun and posing in a new sweater can be cute but, when the December frost hits, the jacket zips (and the pullover peeks out only). Don’t get caught off-guard by a sudden forecast shift and stock up on sherpa and puffy coats now. We looked through all the options at Old Navy and found so many colorful pieces that would especially pop in the snow. Shop our favorites ahead and think of us when you’re still toasty after temperatures tumble. Last Night in Soho’s Costume Designer Shares the Secret to Dressing Like a 1960s Bombshell

October 29, 2021 at 05:10PM Image Source: UPI Media Anya Taylor-Joy continues crafting dangerous and mysterious characters in her new role as Sandie in Last Night in Soho. Costarring Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, and Shadow and Bone’s Jessie Mei Li, the film is best described as a feminist revenge thriller. Taylor-Joy’s Sandie is a naive femme fatale, desperate for her big break in 1965 Soho. Sandie plays foil to McKenzie’s Eloise, a fashion student in prepandemic London, who begins to relive Sandie’s disturbing memories as if they were her own. While Sandie inspires Eloise’s debut collection, personal style becomes a way for her to connect with - and study - her muse. Costume design by Odile Dicks-Mireaux illustrates Sandie and Eloise’s mirrored experiences between the 1960s and 2010s. The principal costumes for Last Night in Soho begin with Eloise’s newspaper gown and Sandie’s…

Gurleen Gill Shares Her Diwali Makeup Routine and Other Holiday Favourites

October 29, 2021 at 05:22PM Toronto-based makeup artist Gurleen Gill (@GlambyGilly) joins three other local collaborators in Sephora Canada’s latest campaign, which celebrates the glamour of Diwali. Here, Gill shares some of her favourite highlights of the holiday, which will be celebrated on November 4 this year, including how she plans on taking her makeup to the next level. Photography Courtesy of Sephora CanadaWhat are some of your family’s favourite Diwali traditions? My family loves to start the day by going to a temple, also known as Gurdwara. Diwali is a little different for every community, but for the Sikh community, we actually use this holiday to celebrate liberation and a major moment in our religion’s history, which speaks to strength, freedom and resilience. We decorate using diyas, which are clay lamps that are usually handmade in India. We use mustard oil to…

Friday Faves

Friday FavesOctober 29, 2021 at 11:42AM Hi friends! Happy Friday and Happy Halloweekend 🙂 What do you have going on? I’m so excited for this weekend. The girls have a costume parade at their school, we’re carving pumpkins and have Trunk or Treat on Saturday, I’m teaching a barre class and a live Fit Team workout, and Sunday night, we’re taking the crew trick-or-treating with my dad and stepmom. I hope you have a fun weekend ahead, too! We had Trunk or Treat at the squadron last weekend, so it was fun to walk around and see all of the different trunks (some were so elaborate! My favorite was the one offering margaritas to the adults) and the kids spent the evening living their best sugar-buzzed lives. Liv wore her dead bride costume and P wore a giraffe costume we’ve had for years.…

5 Items That Aren’t Really “Basics” But Should Be

October 29, 2021 at 09:18AM Whether it be for autumn, another season, or year-round, we all know the typical checklist for fashion basics. It includes (but isn’t limited to) tees, jeans, button-downs, trainers, and more. However, there are certain pieces not on those lists that—within my own wardrobe, among our editorial team, and throughout the fashion industry at large—are, at this point, so common and essential they’re due for an upgrade. Sure, they seemed just like regular trends at first, but when something sticks around long enough or makes a big impression within a short amount of time, it deserves to be recategorized accordingly. As you probably guessed, today, I’m here to show, tell, and sell you on six such pieces. From shackets to sweater sets, these are the cool, new “basics” every fashion person is wearing on repeat. Trust me—you won’t regret investing in…

Zoë Kravitz Wore This Underrated Boot Trend on a Day Date With Channing Tatum

October 29, 2021 at 07:08AM Who’s your favorite Hollywood couple right now? I know newly engaged Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker are definitely one of the buzziest pairs around, but I can’t help but obsess over ZoĂ« Kravitz and Channing Tatum. Photographed on a stroll in New York City this week, they looked like the picture of domestic bliss in coordinating cream sweaters.Kravitz’s outfit reminded me of one boot trend that I haven’t paid much attention to: front-zipper boots. While searching for shoppable products for this story, this style was hard to find compared to popular silhouettes like lace-up and lug-sole boots. That said, there are more than enough options to choose from if you want to copy Kravitz and try out the trend for yourself. Scroll down to shop her outfit. A must for winter days ahead. This looks way more expensive than it really is. This turtleneck…
