Trust Me—These Are the Only Products to Help Save Paper-Thin Nails

November 16, 2021 at 06:00AM Apparently, I have really good nail beds. Nail technicians tell me this. It’s when the shape of your fingernail is long and a wide enough canvas to paint on a long stroke of nail polish. As someone who’s hated her hands her whole life, I take it as a compliment and wear it proudly by always having my nails professionally done in a plethora of colours. I’ve pretty much tried it all—gel extensions, SNS powder and acrylics—in a bid to show off my nail beds. And because of this, my nails have been through it. After my last spell of gels, my natural nails took a beating. I opted for an IBX treatment, which is essentially like Olaplex for your nails, helping to strengthen them over time. “Professional IBX treatments have become very popular,” says nail artist Michelle Humphrey. “This is a strengthening treatment…

10 Comfy Outfits We’ll Actually Be Living in This Winter

November 16, 2021 at 06:00AM Activewear and loungewear have become a valuable part of our capsule wardrobes, and we don’t think we’ll ever be ready to let them go. Of course, these clothes are useful for working out, and nothing provides more motivation than a fresh matching set. But they’re also so useful for those days when you just need to crack on with working from home or run errands, and comfort must come first. And no matter how much we missed getting dressed up when we were spending all our time at home, it’s never not going to feel good to change into our favourite cosy outfits when we walk through the door, especially on those dark winter nights. Prioritising comfort doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style, though. This is why it pays to have brands like Gilly Hicks on…

Why “Chaotic Chic” Is the Trending Aesthetic of Autumn/Winter 2021

November 16, 2021 at 06:00AM I probably won’t be the first millennial to say this, but whenever I look on TikTok, I feel old. And as someone who is still in their 20s (okay, only just), I’m not sure I’m okay with it. But I suppose it’s just part and parcel of a new generation taking to new platforms to express their individuality and, most importantly, assert their point of difference from the previous generation. From a fashion-editor perspective, I have also been impressed by the sheer number of trends that have come out of TikTok, from dark academia to cottagecore. It’s essentially the new way subcultures are forming in the digital era. This season, a new aesthetic has emerged, and it’s yet another example of TikTok's tendency to rebel against prevailing trends. Welcome to the world, “chaotic chic.” Originating from a particular street style tribe, chaotic chic points to an eclectic approach to dressing that embraces…

Seaweed is in my top ‘beauty’ ingredients – here’s why!November 15, 2021 at 09:00PM I am always amazed – though not surprised – at how powerful the plant world can be when it comes to supporting our health and beauty needs. One of my absolute favourite ingredients from nature grows in the ocean… the humble seaweed! However, this botanical hero from the sea is definitely not-so-humble when it comes to supporting our hair and skin. I love using it internally as a supplement to support hair health and growth, whilst using it topically in skincare for a radiant, youthful complexion. Let’s take a dive into the science behind how seaweed delivers these ‘beautifying’ benefits, both from the inside and out. Seaweed for Skin Health  Whilst working with a leading skin biochemist to formulate the new JSHealth Vitamins Skin range, I was blown away…

13 Latinx-Owned Fashion Brands to Shop This Sala Season

November 15, 2021 at 08:20PM We’ve been trying to be more mindful about how and where we spend our money these days, while also making a conscious effort to support Latinx entrepreneurs, creators, and business owners as often as possible. Latinx fashion designers and clothing companies are not something we hear about often, but they exist and are out here making some seriously stylish and thoughtful clothing. There was definitely a time when even the idea of buying clothes, shoes, and accessories from a Latinx-owned shop, let alone created by Latinx designers, wasn’t even on the radar, largely because representation was severely lacking. But now, we know that sometimes in order to support each other, we have to do a little digging and find those small businesses ourselves. With the holiday season approaching, we definitely have shopping on our minds. From sassy T-shirts…

I Found a Faux-Leather Jumpsuit at Walmart For $40, and It Looks Like Legit Luxury

November 15, 2021 at 08:01PM Hi, jumpsuit-obsessed writer here! Ask my friends, my mom, my fiancé (you name it!) if I had to choose one fashion item to wear for the rest of eternity, it would be the one-piece garment. I’m obsessed with how they can make you look so put-together with little to no effort - and that’s precisely why I own several different styles: a long-sleeved denim jumpsuit, a utility jumpsuit, loungy jumpsuits, and … more. But that said, there was one material missing from my wardrobe: faux leather. I had wanted one for a while but didn’t want to shell out more than $100. Don’t get me wrong, I love luxury fashion, but I also love the sweet, sweet feeling of finding an on-trend item for an affordable price. So, perhaps the last place I thought I’d find the style…

The Ghost of Prom Dresses Past is Back

November 15, 2021 at 07:55PM On Tuesday, November 16, Le Château is re-entering the Canadian retail conversation with a casual collection of graphic tees and tracksuits. Just kidding. It’s a “Glamour Capsule” of decadent dresses and jumpsuits, with all the holiday flair you would expect from Canada’s go-to prom destination. The 50 look assortment, available on lechateau.com, takes the drama and glitz synonymous with the Montreal-based brand and presents updated versions of its early-aughts staples. Lace and velvet cascade over plunging necklines. Glitter and ruching commingle in wide-legged pantsuits. There’s even a few mom-approved cutouts. View this post on Instagram   A post shared by LE CHÂTEAU (@lechateau) “Our sweet spot was always dresses,” shares Franco Rocchi, senior marketing director of Le Château. “So for the Le Château relaunch we’re starting with occasion dresses for the holiday season.” It was a sad, nostalgia-inducing…

Meet My New Everyday Shirt: An Oversized Plaid Flannel From Old Navy

November 15, 2021 at 06:40PM True confession: I’m picky when it comes to flannel shirts. As a Vermont-born-New Hampshire-raised gal it’s safe to say flannels were a staple of my fall and winter wardrobe. I’ve tried all types of flannel shirts that come from retailers like L.L. Bean (based in Maine!), prior boyfriends’ closets, and tons of small New England stores, and let me tell you: there is a vast difference in quality, comfort, and price depending on where you get them. While I don’t normally shop retail for flannels, Old Navy’s quality has impressed me this past year and, admittedly, I have a thing for red flannel shirts. So when I saw this Oversized Plaid Flannel Boyfriend Tunic Shirt for Women ($37) I thought “why not? I can always return it.” Luckily, no returns will be necessary - I’m impressed! I ordered…
