This Latina-Owned Jewelry Brand Wants to Celebrate the Andean and Peruvian Diaspora

November 16, 2021 at 09:00PM Image Source: Bonny Melendez “You deserve to feel seen,” is one of the pillars of Brooklyn Warmi, a U.S.-based Andean lifestyle brand founded by Elena Soledad. Elena Soledad is a self-identifying fat, brown-skinned Andean woman of the Peruvian diaspora, who launched her company in January 2021, in an effort to celebrate and uplift Andean and Peruvian diasporic people. Brooklyn Warmi may have only been created 10 months ago, but Soledad’s entrepreneurial spirit stems back to 2010. Finding her desired business took time. Prior to launching her business, she worked customer service and teaching jobs, while maintaining the drive to step out on her own. In November 2020, during a Congress-orchestrated coup in Peru, which resulted in days of political protests, Soledad attended solidarity protests in New York wearing her own design. The sweatshirt read “Quechua Warmi,” which translates…

Harry Styles Wants You to Have Nice Nails

November 16, 2021 at 08:59PM It was only a matter of time before singer-turned-fashion-darling Harry Styles stepped into the role we all know is right for him: beauty mogul. You read that right — Harry Styles has launched his own beauty brand, Pleasing, and we’re kind of freaking out. Known for donning feather boas, mismatched patterns and statement jewelry, Styles has become something of a fashion risk-taker in recent years, and fans love his over the top style. On November 15, Dazed published an interview with Styles — alongside an experimental photoshoot — where he opened up about his Pleasing and its starting lineup: nail polish and skincare. The Dazed cover photo served us a nipple-bearing Styles on a motorcycle sporting a custom-made Gucci outfit, complete with leather boots and violet flare pants. The “Watermelon Sugar” singer posted the shot on Twitter with…

I’m Not Ugly. I Just Wear Glasses.

November 16, 2021 at 08:15PM When was the last time you saw a celebrity on the red carpet sporting eyeglasses? What about a magazine cover? In movies, she’s all that because she took her glasses off. Mia Thermopolis wears glasses. Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi doesn’t. Toula Portokalos took off her glasses and coincidentally, got the guy soon after. I’ve worn glasses since the fifth grade. I made the switch to contact lenses as soon as I could because Hollywood made me think that glasses aren’t something a beautiful person wears. Needing a prescription isn’t rare: 164 million Americans wear glasses. So, why am I embarrassed to wear glasses on nights out or at formal events? The decision to wear glasses or not should be about comfort, not what society deems attractive. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve pushed myself to feel uncomfortable on purpose.…

I’m Obsessed With Succession’s High-Stakes Fashion Choices and Their Hidden Metaphors

November 16, 2021 at 08:05PM When perpetually bewildered Cousin Greg makes it to his first day on the job at the Waystar Royco skyscraper in Succession’s season 1, Tom Wambsgans confronts him with some brutal questions, “Forgive me, but are we talking to each other on the poop deck of a majestic schooner? Is the salty brine stinging my weather-beaten face? No? Then why the fuck are you wearing a pair of deck shoes, man?” Yes, that dialogue tells us a lot about Tom (yikes) but it also throws a gauntlet down for Easter-egg-hunting viewers: look out, the fashion on this show is important. Inside the world of the Succession, fashion is incredibly important to the characters since one wrong move will get you booted as an interloper in their high-stakes sphere. Outside of the world of the show, the characters’ fashion is…

Elle Fanning Basically Wore a Giant Gold Chain Link as a Crop Top, and Y’know What? It Works

November 16, 2021 at 07:55PM Chain links have proven to be timelessly fashionable in the form of necklaces and purse straps, but Elle Fanning introduced us to an entirely new, larger-than-life take on the trend at the 2021 InStyle Awards on Monday. The 23-year-old actress commanded attention at the event when she walked the red carpet in a crop top designed to resemble an enormous chain link. Hailing from Balmain’s spring/summer 2022 collection, the armor-like design features dozens of dazzling jewels lining the front and wraps around the back with a much thinner gold chain. With help from her longtime stylist, Samantha McMillen, Elle paired the spotlight-stealing top with a simple low-rise maxi skirt, platform heels, and a collection of gold Balmain rings. Somehow, against all odds, the outfit … really worked. Aesthetics aside, however, we do have some urgent questions about the…

How to Look Really, Really, Really Rich: Fashion Lessons From Succession

November 16, 2021 at 07:05PM HBO’s hit series Succession is a family drama composed of chaotically evil, ultrawealthy, gorgeously dressed people. “It’s like being a superhero, only better,” Tom tells Cousin Greg in season one about being rich and powerful. “You get to wear a costume, only it’s designed by Armani and doesn’t make you look like a prick!” As we gleefully watch the Roy family implode through season three, attention must be paid to the clothes. Succession has sneakily become one of those sartorially blessed series whose fashion moments trend on Twitter as often as the plot twists do. With that in mind, here are style lessons we learned from this absurdly rich but horrible family. Remember, though: while you’re dressing for the job and the life you want, don’t forget to accessorize with a moral compass. Trust us, you’ll look cuter…
