Meghan Markle’s Emerald-Green Dress Holds a Special Meaning
December 02, 2022 at 03:50AM
In support of the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, Meghan Markle paid a visit to Indianapolis to partake in an inspiring chat centered around investing in women and empowering young girls. For the benefit on Nov. 29, two days before Netflix released the first teaser trailer for “Harry & Meghan,” the Duchess of Sussex wore a chic, emerald-green dress from Giorgio Armani to speak with Rabbi Sandy Sasso in a moderated discussion. The knee-length number came with a twisted keyhole front detail and long sleeves in a jersey fabric, which she paired with suede Manolo Blahnik pumps in bright purple.
As Markle’s style choices often do, the green-and-purple combination may hold special
sartorial meaning. As initially reported by Page Six, the colors, in addition to white, represent the suffragettes at Women’s Sunday in June 1908. Purple stood for loyalty, green symbolized hope, and white meant purity. Her curated look likely speaks to her support for the Women’s Fund mission and event.
The mom of two frequently uses color to send subtle messages through her clothing. Over the years, red in particular has become a power color for Markle. After stepping away from her royal duties, she returned to the red carpet at the Salute to Freedom Gala in November 2021, in a Carolina Herrera dress in the vibrant hue. More recently, she wore head-to-toe red again in a set of portraits with Prince Harry, taken at the One Young World Summit’s opening ceremony. The “Archetypes” host dressed in a long-sleeved blouse with a scarf draped over her shoulder, with straight-leg trousers for the photos.
