We fashion journalists like to talk a lot about “forever items” and “staples,” and in all honesty, I do think that both the industry and the general public are slowly becoming better at having a more measured approach to deciding what we actually need in our wardrobes. But sometimes the proof is in the pudding, as they say, and so I wanted to share with you one particular item of clothing that I’ve now owned for over eight years that is still going strong: a simple black blazer from Theory.

I stumbled across the blazer in TK Maxx the year after I graduated, and I was instantly won over by the impeccable fit and 100% silk fabric, which felt so premium yet wearable at the same time. Not only that, but it was also priced at a very budget-friendly £50, so I did not hesitate to snap it up. It was one of the first high-end brands I had ever owned, and boy, did I feel grown-up. Fast-forward eight years, and I have lost count of the number of times I have worn the blazer. It’s carried me through everything from job interviews and Secret Cinema screenings (James Bond–themed, obvs) to date nights and casual weekend dinners with friends. And you know what? It still looks as good as the day I bought it. Now that’s a good cost per wear.

Right now, I’m enjoying keeping it simple with my trusty Arket tee, chunky Dune sandals and baggy jeans from Boyish. Sadly, the blazer is no longer available in this exact style, but you can easily find similar styles at Theory. Scroll down to shop similar styles. PS: Theory is offering an exclusive 25% off (including sale) to Who What Wear readers with the promo code WWWFORTHEORY until 31 July. Just saying.
