J Lo Takes the Divisive Low-Rise Jeans Trend to Hip-Skimming Territory

Jennifer Lopez is none too picky when it comes to divisive denim trends. From low, swinging cargos with oversize pockets and tapered ankles to extremely roomy wide-leg jeans, she’s certainly worn the gamut with confidence – especially in recent months. Lopez’s latest outing saw her running errands in Los Angeles with her daughter Emme in another pair of baggy pants, this time featuring an extremely low waistband that gathered right at the hips. The 53-year-old multihyphenate flashed a peek at her abs in a coordinating cropped gray sweater with bell sleeves and a crewneck cut.

The top provided a neutral foundation to the rest of her accoutrements, including a pair of Nike Dunks that appear to have the initials “JL A” embroidered on the heel; several chunky rings incorporating her green stone engagement ring and wedding band stack; a black croc-effect Hermès Birkin; thin, circular hoop earrings; and oversize aviator sunglasses. Lopez kept her hair tied back in a slick, sporty ponytail and opted for natural makeup with a frosted lip. The look was a clear nod to the ‘90s, as is plenty of her street wear when she’s not taking the bohemian route (just as she would one day later in an ethereal off-the-shoulder maxi dress on Mother’s Day).

At least twice last year, “The Mother” actress also opted for pooling high-waisted trousers, both while house hunting and visting husband Ben Affleck on set. Most recently, she and Affleck coordinated off-duty outfits for a walk in Santa Monica, CA on May 10. They then attended “The Mother” premiere, where Lopez rocked a three-piece Brunello Cucinelli nude sparkling set and minimalist “supermodel” nails.

Ahead, get a peek at Lopez’s controversial jeans that skim her hips, then look back at her cutout Ralph Lauren Met Gala gown and the sideboob-baring top she wore to the afterparty earlier this month.
