The first day of spring is almost upon us (officially, it’s the 20th if you want to mark those calendars), but the blue skies and that spring-like feeling in the air are due to arrive even sooner. By the looks of London’s forecast, we’re officially done with single-digit Celsius temperatures already *sighs with relief* and so we can’t help but look forward to the new season now. March is also the perfect time to start thinking about your wardrobe switchover—vacuum-packing away those heavy layers and taking stock of what spring-ready pieces you already have in your closet and what you may need to replenish or add.

You’re only human if you find these seasonal changes in wardrobe mindset a little tricky, though. Even I struggle remembering how to dress for warmer climes after months of hiding under chunky puffers, and I’ve been a stylist for almost 10 years. Like I said, you’ll probably own a lot of what you love wearing in spring already, and then it’s just a case of adding in a few fresh items to bring everything up to date and, let’s be honest, get you excited about wearing all your outfits again. There’s a lot of choice out there when it comes to new spring buys, though, and so I thought it might be helpful to put together a shopping guide of all the pieces I’m particularly loving this March to provide some inspiration for the season ahead.

After all, as a Who What Wear editor, my job is to scour everything on the market and know exactly what’s worth purchasing and what’s not, the pieces that have staying power and the expensive-looking items you’ll never regret. Below, then, you’ll find 40 of the very best spring pieces I think are really special for wearing right now and beyond. I’ve included some timeless seasonal classics, like the perfect trench coat and fresh blue jeans (ideal if you’ve spotted some gaps in your capsule that need to be filled), and also some fun statement pieces guaranteed to bring joy, too. I’m not suggesting you need everything in this list by any means, but if you’re looking for one or two items to bring your March wardrobe into the new season, keep scrolling for a nosy at the pieces I’d recommend below.

The perfect trench.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s favourite blazer.

I’ve had the grey version of this on my wish list all winter but this new green one (made from responsible wool) has just trumped it.

Quilted jackets don’t just look good; they’re versatile, too. This new H&M version is one of the best I’ve seen on the high street.

I love the contrast of this sweet candy shade on an oversized blazer.

A shacket is the perfect spring layer.

Such a beautiful spring coat.

So chic.

Make an easy spring statement with this pop-of-colour blazer.

Comfy yet chic. Pair with knee-high boots for the office or meetings.

I’m predicting this pretty H&M dress is going to be a sellout this spring/summer. Get it now while you can.

This is a cute minidress you can take with you from spring into summer.

Such a great wedding guest dress.

I’ve seen this dress look good on so many different body shapes.

The comfiest dress that looks chic and makes a statement too.

A pretty dress for daytime with sandals and weddings with heels.

Such an easy throw-on style that comes in plus and standard sizes.

We’re all familiar with the versatility of a slip skirt by now, and this bright pink one is no different.

I love this green twist on a classic Breton.

Crisp white tops are the perfect spring accompaniment to denim.

I’d wear this shirt open over a white T-shirt.

Arket’s sellout jumper is back in stock right now.

Inject some colour into your classics with this tangerine dream.

Who can resist gingham in spring?

A cardigan you’ll love for years to come.

A sweater-vest is your friend in spring.

What’s spring without a Breton?

All you need to jazz up a pair of jeans.

The perfect everyday jeans. Trust me, I don’t take mine off.

If you couldn’t already tell, I’m so into green this season—along with the rest of the fashion world.

Trousers of all kinds are still huge this season, but cream tailored ones feel particularly on point.

Dungarees are back in a big way.

I love these slouchier jeans paired with a delicate sandal or pretty ballet flat.

These jeans are currently living in my mind rent free.

A denim jumpsuit is a spring staple.

I can’t get over how expensive this bag looks.

I’m obsessed with how these transform jeans and a T-shirt into a pretty spring outfit.

Loafers just might be the ultimate spring shoes.

I love the new anklet addition to M&S’s popular ballet flats. They’re so comfy as well.

A fresh pair of trainers makes every outfit look expensive.
