If we’re good at anything here at Who What Wear, it’s finding luxe high-street items that look like they could be designer. It’s a talent we’re proud of, and it comes as a result of a few things: our genuine love for the great British high street, especially when it gets things really right; the sheer amount of time we spend combing through the new-in sections; and finally, our complex web of Slack channels that ping any time someone spots a true gem, ensuring we have an encyclopedic knowledge of the best items out there at all times.Â
The thing is, searching for premium-looking wardrobe classics that sit at the more affordable end of the scale is not just something we do for work; it’s how we build our own wardrobes too. Even the fanciest fashion people aren’t actually dressed head to toe in The Row every day, and I don’t know an editor out there who wouldn’t get excited when you told them the coat they’ve just complimented is actually an affordable buy they’ll wear year after year.
One brand we turn to again and again in our search for these pieces is Mango. The Spanish brand just seems to have a knack for creating designer-worthy collections that feel luxurious without breaking the bank. What sets it apart is that while the basis of the designs remains mostly classic, they’re not afraid to experiment with interesting details or premium materials—two of the key factors that make clothes look expensive. A trench like this one might have Frankie Shop–like shoulder pads, for example. Or you’ll find a wool coat with a couture-like fit for under ÂŁ200. And while they don’t yet offer petite, it’s good to note the plus-size range is getting more and more impressive, with many styles now being offered up to a size 26/4XL.Â
Keep scrolling, and you’ll find my edit of the most expensive-looking Mango items currently on site. They’re all staples you’ll be able to wear for years to come, but they still feel fresh for elevating everyday outfits right now.
