I Live in This Old Navy Half-Zip Sweatshirt and Am Eyeing the 5 Other Colors

February 22, 2023 at 10:47PM

Full disclosure: my athleisure vs. real clothes ratio is about 80/20, with athleisure having the upper hand. My weakness for stylish joggers, comfy leggings, and sweatshirts with interesting silhouettes tends to take over when I’m shopping for a closet refresh. The sheer volume of wear I know I’ll get out of each piece is undeniable. My latest acquisition? The Old Navy Dynamic Fleece Half-Zip Sweatshirt ($50), a structured sweatshirt that looks equally stylish paired with leggings for a workout or wide-leg jeans for running errands. I have plenty of crewneck sweatshirts, hoodies, and zip-ups but wanted to grab a trendier, more structured version, and this half-zip is it.

What I Love About Old Navy’s Extra Dynamic Fleece Half-Zip Sweatshirt

This half-zip sweatshirt is hailed on TikTok as an affordable dupe for a popular style from a high-end athletic brand. While I haven’t tried on the more expensive version, this one looks very similar. Both have a cropped silhouette, fleece material, thumbhole cuffs to keep your hands warm, and, of course, a half-zip collar. I like that Old Navy’s sweatshirt has a bit of spandex blended in with the cotton fleece for a stretchy fit. I also appreciate that it doesn’t have a hood attached and instead allows you to fully zip the collar for a warm and chic high-neck funnel collar. If you pull the neck strings, it even ruffles a bit for added texture. I can zip the side pockets to keep valuables like a slim card holder, phone, or keys protected, but I love that the pockets connect so I can fold my hands together for added coziness. Can we also talk about the color? I live for a gorgeous neutral, and this pinky-brown shade called Rare Earth is stunning in person.

What’s Worth Noting About Old Navy’s Dynamic Fleece Half-Zip Sweatshirt

This sweatshirt has more than 900 reviews with an average rating of just under five stars, so it’s popular among shoppers who have taken the leap to purchase, and I can see why. A piece of advice noted in some of the comments is to size up, and I definitely agree. I’m usually a small or medium in tops, but after trying this sweatshirt in both medium and large, I opted for the large. The stretchiness of the fabric gives it a clingier fit. I prefer oversize versus fitted sweatshirts in general, but something about the stretchy fabric made me feel especially claustrophobic in my usual size medium. Though the large size offers extra room in the chest and waist, you can see that it still has a cropped fit and I’m not swimming in it. I love the color but think it looks a little more pink in person than it does in the photos on Old Navy’s website. It’s also lightweight, making it great for exercise, but it isn’t my warmest sweatshirt.

Who Is Old Navy’s Dynamic Fleece Half-Zip Sweatshirt Best For?

This sweatshirt is ideal for anyone who wants a stretchy cotton fleece sweatshirt that allows for movement instead of a super-warm sweatshirt for colder weather. If you prefer to keep your neck warm but don’t love the look and feel of a hoodie, this sweatshirt does the job. It also comes in several other stylish colors, so you can pair it with leggings or joggers in the same color family for an elevated, monochromatic look. It’s comfortable but structured enough so you feel pulled together while wearing it.
