Every Fashion Person is Wearing This Coat – and It’s From the High Street

For a moment, I actually believed the only coat/jacket I would see this season is that The Frankie Shop quilted style (we all know the one). Then, to my surprise the fashion people pulled through with yet another form of outerwear to fill my Instagram feed. Although not all from the same brand this time – even though they look extremely similar – they all have the same thing in common, and it’s all about the colour. Let me introduce you to the salt and pepper coat, aka your new best friend.

Usually used when describing dark hair with grey or white flecks in, the coat in question is much the same. A mix of grey, white and black threads creates a textured herringbone or flecked effect that’s proving to be a huge hit this season. Best part? It’s the high street brands that are leading the salt and pepper movement. With the likes of Mango, River Island, & Other Stories and Aligne all on board, you can pick up one of the best coats 2021 has to offer from £40 – yep, really.

I’ve rounded up some of the best salt and pepper outfits I’ve seen on some of the most stylish women, and gone as far as finding where you can shop their exact coat. Because they’re that good, trust me!

Style Notes: The queen of oversized coats, Hannah, wears the & Other Stories salt and pepper floor-sweeper. This style is made for fuss-free minimalists.

Style Notes: Changing my mind about knee-length coats, I love this Mango style Sylvie wears wth classic jeans and a tee. And it’s now in the sale, too.

Style Notes: I can’t cope with how amazing Rachael looks in this Aligne version. Made from deadstock (unused) fabric, the sustainable style also has a recycled polyester lining.

Style Notes: River Island has also jumped on the micro coat trend. And so many people have snapped up this winner. I love the cool cuffs and oversized fit – especially when worn with laid-back baggy jeans and trainers like Miya.

Style Notes: Stylist Hannah Lewis was one of the first to try out this longline Mango coat. I’m a big fan of matching your coat to your knitwear, so naturally I love this ensemble.

Grab this one in a size up for an oversized fit.

Even shackets are getting the salt and pepper treatment.

So very chic.

The ideal work, weekend and everything in between coat.

An under £100 winner.

I love ths cosy belted iteration.
