Emma Stone took her wedding afterparty dress for a second spin at the Met Gala. The “Cruella” actor attended the annual fashion event in the feathered white minidress she wore after privately tying the knot with comedian Dave McCary in 2020. Seeing as Stone and McCary kept their nuptials under wraps, this marks the first time she’s publicly offered a peek at her wedding wardrobe.
Custom-designed by Louis Vuitton Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière, the flapper-style dress features sheer straps, buttons down both sides, and sequins and ostrich feathers along the hem. Stone styled it with white chain-strap heels, several diamond rings, and simple stud earrings.
At first glance, fans were quick to conclude that Stone’s understated dress wasn’t quite in line with the Met Gala’s “Gilded Glamour” theme this year, especially compared to the overly embellished and detailed outfits some other attendees wore on the red carpet. But it was actually meant to make a powerful statement about the importance of sustainability on the biggest fashion night of the year. Ghesquière attended the Met Gala with 14 stars – including Stone, HoYeon, Joe Jonas, and Sophie Turner – each dressed in archival or previously worn Louis Vuitton designs.
“Never has it been more important to show that creations should be made to last,” Ghesquière told Vogue of the demonstration. “There is no better feeling than to know your designs will live on. While my role as an artistic director is to constantly create, the chance to return to previous collections and designs for this year’s Met Gala was joyful.” Ahead, take a closer look at Stone’s ode to circular fashion at this year’s Met Gala.
