J Lo Is Bringing Back This Controversial Skort Trend From the ‘90s

April 04, 2023 at 09:29PM

Jennifer Lopez is ushering in the spring season with a micro-mini trend that begs the question: is the skort back? She posed wearing a yellow and white striped nautical-themed skort from Zimmermann, resurfacing the controversial ’90s trend.

Lopez shared a video to her Instagram account to announce the launch of Delola, her new sparkling spritzer company inspired by her love of the Italian coast. The actress styled her Zimmermann skort alongside a white button-down shirt that was tied at her navel. She accessorized with gold statement jewelry including a wide curb link cuff bracelet and hoop earrings. In another shot, she stares into the camera in a bright yellow button-down shirt and triple bow drop earrings.

The skort is exactly what it sounds like: a skirt, most often short in length, with a pair of shorts underneath. Sometimes the shorts can be seen from the back with a skirted front, and sometimes they’re hiding below. Either way, it allows for the wearer to go a little shorter in length with their skirt, knowing the shorts will provide coverage. Consider the addition of leg holes a wardrobe-malfunction buster. Though it originally surfaced in the 1960s, the skort came back with a vengeance in the ’90s, so it’s certainly due for a resurgence. And Lopez is just the stylish celebrity to bring it back.

Lopez is having quite the spring season, not only lending her face to campaigns for the likes of Coach, Intimissimi, and her own JLo Beauty; but also launching a partnership with Virgin Voyages, announcing her forthcoming new album, and just wrapping promotion of her latest movie, “Shotgun Wedding.”

Ahead, check out Jennifer Lopez’s take on the polarizing look – and get ready to celebrate a summer full of skorts.
