From Kendall Jenner to Fashion Buyers, This Is the #1 Jumper Trend of the Season

Love it or loathe it, there’s no avoiding the fact that the noughties are making a comeback this season, with all your favourite throwback looks (oh hello, low-slung jeans and butterfly motifs) cropping up on the runway. As a millennial, I have mixed feelings about this new nostalgia, but I have also enjoyed how fashion brands have adapted the trends to feel more contemporary. Case in point: Off-the-shoulder jumpers are a look I strongly associate with my teens (and not in a good way). However, if you look at interpretations from brands such as Tom Ford and Altuzurra, I can’t deny that they look pretty damn chic.

When it comes to working 2021’s off-the-shoulder knit in a contemporary way, it’s all about styling. Pairing an off-the-shoulder jumper with tailored wide-leg trousers, preferably in a matching shade, is an easy way to create a modern ensemble, but I also appreciate the Punk-inspired finish that comes from a miniskirt and chunky boots. If you’re looking for something a little more colourful, check out this lime-green Free People number, which would look very cool with a long slip skirt and heeled boots. Of course, you can always go full noughties with low-slung flares and a circle belt. So if you’re in need of a little off-the-shoulder inspo, scroll down to see how the fashion crowd has been wearing their knits and shop my edit.

I love the edgier take on the trend with the oversized zip-up knit and platform heels.

For a little Scandi appeal, just add a Fair Isle knit to a pair of colour-pop trousers.

There’s something very nostalgic about this outfit, yet it stays contemporary with the minimalist colour palette.

Lisa Aiken makes a good case for head-to-toe black with this wintery look. So simple yet so chic.
