While over-the-top Italian glamour will always send hearts racing (we’re looking at you, Moschino), natural and carefree beauty continued to be the overwhelming theme at Milan Fashion Week Fall 2022.
Middle parts and natural textures were seen on the runways of classically boho labels such as Etro and Missoni, as well as many others, including Abodi and Sportmax. However, just as we were thinking we could stash our blow dryers come fall, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana paired middle parts with super-sleek and polished strands that nearly have us blowing the dust off our early 2000s-era flat irons.
Don’t even have time for an air dry? Why not simply slick your hair back right out of the shower? Jil Sander and Giorgio Armani showed too-cool-for-school wet looks, while the pared-down bouffants at Prada were slicked back with more sculpted shapes and volume. Just like we saw in London, headgear continues to be a major accessory (and saving grace) for next fall, with a wide variety of hats, caps and snoods seen at Max Mara, Alberta Ferretti, Gucci, DSquared2 and more.
Gorgeous, glowing skin (and not much else) continued to dominate the catwalk (Fendi, Roberto Cavalli and Tod’s), while on the opposite side of the spectrum a more jubilant mood brought bright flashes of colour to the forefront. Eyes continued to be the focus with liner and shadows seen in every shade of the rainbow at Capasa Milano, purple at Blumarine, orange at AC9 and Missoni, pink at Emporio Armani (complete with those club kid crystals), and silver and cobalt at Gucci. But brightly pigmented hairlines and face paint at Diesel and bright blue, black and scarlet pouts at Gucci and Blumarine showed that it’s not just your eyeline that can have all the fun come fall.
