See the Barbie and Ken Movie Outfits That Have Everybody Talking

June 29, 2022 at 09:55PM

Greta Gerwig’s live-action “Barbie” stars Margot Robbie as the iconic character and Ryan Gosling as boyfriend Ken. Gosling even bleached his hair platinum-blond to slip into the look. The Warner Bros. movie, which released official stills on June 15, has begun filming in LA and Venice Beach, where we’ve gotten a glimpse of the incredible costume design from Jacqueline Durran, who made waves with her work for “Spencer,” “Little Women,” and the live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast.” While the former project, starring Kristen Stewart, involved close collaboration with the Chanel Couture house, there will likely be plenty of studio-made pieces for “Barbie,” as proven by the one-of-a-kind looks Robbie and Gosling have already been spotted in.

A first peek at Barbie’s retro style showcases Robbie sitting in her iconic convertible wearing a blue-and-white striped halter top with a sweetheart neckline, a thick, polka-dot headband, and chunky beaded bracelet. Meanwhile, Ken gets his own Calvin Klein-inspired branded underwear, with the waistband peeking out prominently from his denim-on-denim coordinates. The couple also sported Western rodeo outfits, complete with fringe and intricate embroidery as well as neon ‘90s rollerblading sets – and the complementary his-and-her costumes surely will not end there.

Gerwig’s “Barbie” is, in part, responsible for the excitement surrounding the Barbiecore aesthetic in fashion, which is also founded on the resurgence of popular ’90s and Y2K trends. With stars like Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly serving up pink looks on the red carpet and Cardi B and Lizzo wearing head-to-toe pink in the streets, Barbie fashion inspiration is everywhere this season.

Robbie and Gosling bring back the most original iteration of the look ahead. Watch this space as we gather even more pictures of their wardrobe from upcoming scenes in anticipation of the film’s release in July 2023.
