There’s no doubt about it: French fashion types know how to do autumn style. Yes, here in the UK, we’re no strangers to the odd layering trick or two. However, Gallic girls have managed to perfect the art of staying warm without being encumbered by lumpy layers. For influencers such as Slip Into Style’s Ellie and Anne Laure Mais, knitwear is key, and luckily, this season has plenty to offer in this area with everything from skirts to dresses and, of course, sweaters, rendered in fine knit.

We’re also seeing some excellent accessory action from the Parisians, with chunky knee boots proving to be the footwear of note this autumn. Scroll down to see the French-girl autumn outfits we can’t get enough of this year. Plus, shop any pieces you might need to re-create the flawless looks for yourself.

Style Notes: No one wears jumpsuits quite so cooly as Ellie. Her utility number with a black roll-neck layered underneath and tucked into boots is inspired.

Style Notes: Give your summer skirts an autumnal spin by wearing them with a blazer and ankle boots, just like Franny did.

Style Notes: Just because it’s autumn, it doesn’t mean you can’t wear shorter hemlines. Make like Anne, and wear yours with knee boots and a trench coat.

Style Notes: Cardigans are an integral part of Jeanne’s autumn wardrobe. Keep the heat in by cinching your waist with a simple belt.

Style Notes: Chunky cable-knit sweaters can still prove too warm in early autumn, but Sya knows a cropped iteration is the ideal stand-in.

Style Notes: We all know that leather separates are some of the toastiest pieces you can wear, so when temperatures plummet, why not wear them top-to-toe like Loïcka did?

Style Notes: Knitted vests are still going to be a key investment for autumn. Pair yours with other standout wardrobe staples, such as a collared blouse and flare jeans, to truly subscribe to the autumn 2021 aesthetic.

Style Notes: So many French women own checked blazers, making them a must if you want to emulate their immaculate style. We love how Camille has styled hers with a ruffled blouse and shorts for a romantic spin.
