After so many weddings and celebrations were delayed or altered over the last few years thanks to the pandemic, things are hopefully looking up for 2022. Normal wedding programming has resumed and we can finally get back to celebrating our friends and family in style— which is great news, especially if you’re one of the couples planning your big day.

If you’re anything like most of us on the Who What Wear team, the delays have also meant our 2022 calendars are already looking pretty packed; thanks to the backlog of postponements as well as all the new engagements that have happened since. The fun times will, of course, be worth it, but the stress of planning so many different outfits for all the occasions is real. So we thought we’d help the best way we know how— by getting ahead at the start of the year and rounding up the biggest wedding-guest trends set to take 2022 by storm.

Renting is the perfect option for special events like weddings, especially if you think you might only wear a specific look once or twice. HURR, RotaroMy Wardrobe and By Rotation all have amazing, ever-expanding collections full of perfect wedding-guest attire. But if you’re looking to invest in an outfit to love for a longer time, or perhaps one special look you can wear to all of the events in your calendar, you’re going to want to be informed on where to start your search. It can get overwhelming out there, otherwise.

So below we’ve set out the seven key trends that promise to be huge in 2022 among wedding-goers to help inspire you. Whether it’s a winter or summer wedding, lavish event or intimate ceremony, there’s something here that will work. There’s bold suiting, chic co-ords and, of course, lots and lots of dresses. Keep scrolling to start planning and shopping…

For an interesting twist on your wedding-guest outfit, why not try a co-ord instead of a dress? We love a two-piece for day to day and it works just as well for a wedding.

This is such a fun print.

Ideal for minimalists.

Hemlines have gone to the extremes for 2022— meaning you can choose between either really short or really long. Make a statement with a maxi length for a wedding and show off your knowledge of the new year’s trends.

Covered buttons always look so premium.

Wear this dress with oversize pearl earrings.

I love how the sleeves echo the shape of the hemline on this maxi.

Mini dresses can sometimes feel a little too casual or revealing for a wedding, but these particular styles, with flippy skirts and long sleeves, make the trend appropriate.

If you’re looking for a mini dress that feels special, Zimmermann is the answer.

This looks significantly more expensive than it actually is.

I appreciate the collar detail.

The fashion world has gone mad for knit dresses, so it’s no surprise they’re proving to be a huge trend for wedding-guest options too. Choose bright, printed versions rather than neutrals (which feel quite casual) and pair with strappy heels to dress them up.

Bow details always win me over.

The checkerboard trend isn’t going anywhere.

Naked dresses are going to be big in 2022, with seriously slinky straps and barely-there materials. To make the trend wedding-appropriate opt for subtle cut outs and your look will instantly feel modern.

From the fabric to the back cut-out, this dress feels so special.

Who says you can’t wear black to a wedding?

The shade of this dress is so on-trend.

The nostalgia of the ‘90s and Y2K is still going strong in fashion circles. Introduce it into your wedding-guest repertoire for 2022 with a silky slip dress.

You need to see the pretty tie-back detail.

Plissé pleats are key this spring.

The draped bodice is incredibly flattering.

Not a dress person? Try a suit in a bold hue and capitalise on the column of colour trend that we saw all over the SS22 catwalks.

The structured silhouette ensures this blazer hands beautifully.

Taper trousers keep this suit clean.

Such a great colour.

Kick-flare trousers feel glam and wedding-ready.
