There are two types of people right now: those who are already in the festive swing and playing Mariah Carey from the rooftops, and those who are not quite there yet. If you’ve already got the party playlist on then you may be ready to embrace sequins in all their sparkly glory. If you’re sticking to a classic cold-weather wardrobe, you may need some gentle encouragement to embrace sparkles. And this is where we come in.

The sequin–most likely midi–skirt has been making an appearance on our Instagram feeds lately, and we are here for it. An inevitably cool way to step (not leap) into party season dressing is to follow the London laid-back look. Similar to wearing a dress with trainers, wearing a sequin skirt with a casual chunky knit, a humble cardigan or polo top is the way to style it this time around. It’s all about looking like you’re on the cusp of asking Alexa for a Christmas jingle, without actually doing so.

Ready to try out relaxed sequin outfits? We’ve rounded up the skirts you’ll want to take as a plus one to any daytime or after-dark event, and the ways to wear them.

Making a strong case for tonal sequins, Emna lets her pink skirt shine (quite literally) by teaming it with a paired back knit. Simple additions of a glossy grab bag, heels and hoops keep the look elevated enough for evening.

If you were under the impression you either have to pick sequins or cosy clothes, think again. Claudia shows us all how to merge the two, and we like it, a lot. This is one way to make sure eyes are all firmly on the glitzy skirt. Make sure you wear a great pair of shoes, too.

When you’ve got work at 9am and cocktails at 9pm. Ellie from @slipintostyle never fails in the outfit department and this work on top, party on the bottom look proves our point. Want to make it more daytime ready? Switch the heels to a pair of New Balance trainers.

Creating a throwback rock chic festival vibe, Claire pairs a mini sequin number with a classic band tee. Keep it autumn/winter appropriate with a throw-on laid-back coat and chunky lace-up boots.

A two-piece somehow feels less in-your-face than a sequin dress. Zeena wears her signature socks and sandals and keeps the look feeling effortless. The Rotate Birger Christensen set below will look so good with. agrey chunky cardigan and boots.

Who what wear’s shopping editor Joy Monty has already tried on all the best bits for party season over at Rixo. Picking up this diamond–in more ways than one–midi, one way to wear it is with an equally as jazzy polo top. Luckily for us all, we can shop this exact power pairing. Thanks, Joy.

We’ve already gushed about how much we adore a skirt and jumper co-ord, and our love continues way into party season. Edging slightly towards disco ball territory, Babba shows how even full sequins can look relaxed if you go for an oversized top. Sunnies make it the perfect brunch/Christmas lunch look.
