Whenever I wear a double denim outfit there’s almost always someone who comments on how ‘brave’ I am for wearing such a bold look. Okay, so I understand the reservations some people might have around the ‘Canadian tuxedo’—most of which relate to a certain Justin and Britney look c.2001 or, alternatively, the memory of a questionable teenage outfit they’d rather forget—but I find that double denim is one of the coolest, and easiest, looks you can wear for spring .Â
If you love co-ords and boilersuits, or embraced the tonal dressing trend, then I’m certain you’ll love double denim. For me, it’s an easy pairing that requires relatively little effort and thought, and has just the right amount of retro charm (you know me). My favourite way to wear double denim is a simple pair of straight leg jeans, a denim shirt, and knotted red neckerchief for a little Wild West twist. But of course, there are so many ways to work this look. I’ve rounded-up 5 different looks from 5 very stylish women who have nailed double denim dressing, but in their own unique ways. You’ve got Raenn Langas who manages to make it feel polished with a structured bustier top but then, at the other end of the spectrum, you have Jo-Ann Alari who makes a very good case for white denim dungarees and a bleach denim shirt. Ready? Scroll down to shop my favourite double denim looks for spring.Â
Style Notes: You can’t go wrong with the classic, ’80s-inspired charm of a denim-jacket-and-jeans pairing, as seen here on @the_oluwaseun. Styling-wise, we recommend sticking to a boxier fit jacket and straight leg jeans for a more contemporary spin.Â
Style Notes:Â Who said denim was only for casual occasions? Well, lots of people. But Raeann Langas makes a very good case for the denim bustier in this party-ready ensemble. Also, we love the pop of leopard print via her heeled boots.Â

Style Notes:Â A denim midi skirt is a good way to work the double denim look in spring and summer. We’ll be taking our cues from Sylvie Mus and adding an oversized denim shirt, hoop earrings and heeled mules.
Style Notes: You can always rely on Blanca Miro to bring a quirky spin on a styling trend. Case in point: Miro delivers double denim dressing goals via patchwork jeans, white blouse and a denim waistcoat. Perfect for a bit of retro charm.
Style Notes: Double denim doesn’t always have to mean 50 shades of blue. Here, Jo-Ann Alari shakes things up with a pair of white denim dungarees layered over a pale wash denim shirt. It’s exactly what we want to wear on a breezy spring weekend.Â
