As far as winter outfits go, there’s nothing quite as effective as the humble coat-and-boots combo. Simple though it may sound, the right pairing can see you through the frosty winter months whilst still feeling like you’ve got your finger on the fashion pulse. Whether it’s this season’s favourite chunky-sole boots and a checked coat for weekend walks or knee highs with a vinyl trench for when you’re feeling a little fancier, this easy formula is your best friend for every cold-weather occasion.

If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably already been relying on this duo every winter, adding and taking away scarves and knits as the weather fluctuates. Turns out that influencers aren’t any different. We can’t help but notice so many excellent combinations on our Instagram feeds, and who can blame them?  Okay, so it’s not the most groundbreaking look of the season, but just because it’s simple doesn’t have to mean boring, as these 10 outfits prove only too well. Most coats and boots go together like red wine and a cosy afternoon in the pub, and that’s the beauty of it: You can’t really go wrong. Freshen up your favourites by playing with texture and proportions, and this classic combo can actually make you look and feel super put-together.  There’s no shame in having your favourite combo on repeat every weekend until March (we certainly will be), but if you’re feeling a little over your current offerings, keep scrolling for some inspiration.

Style Notes: Although it might cost you more in dry-cleaning bills, there’s no denying that white coats never fail to look chic. Wear them with black leather boots for a cool but classic clash.

Style Notes: Robe coats will keep you toasty when temperatures plummet. Balance out their typically oversize proportions with a pair of stacked-sole boots.

Style Notes: If you’d prefer to take the more-is-more approach with your coat and boot outfit, follow Ada’s lead with a bright trench and mock-croc knee-highs.

Style Notes: Versatility is important in your coat and boot choices, and no styles feel more wearable than hiker boots and oversized pea coats. Wear them with everything from printed dresses and chunky jumpers to white jeans and roll-necks.

Style Notes: A camel coat is perhaps the best coat investment you can make. Bring yours bang up-to-date with a pair of on-trend square-toe ankle boots.

Style Notes: Lucy’s Rave Review coat is certainly a talking point. Wear her bright checks with a pair of chunky track-sole boots for a look that’s unexpected but still super fashionable.

Style Notes: Vintage-style coats with faux-fur trims are going to be huge this season. Embrace the retro vibe with some tan boots. This subtle platform pair is high up on our autumn wish lists.

Style Notes: An embossed coat makes for an interesting alternative to wool numbers while still proving to be versatile enough to wear with just about anything in your wardrobe. Give it a fresh spin with a set of white boots.

Style Notes: Printed coats will help you make a statement wherever you’re heading. Keep your boot choice sleek and stylish (a pair of black knee-highs will do the trick) to unlock its premium-looking potential.

Style Notes: Fringing is a key microtrend for the season ahead, adorning everything from sleeves to the bottom of coat hems. For the latter, keep the focus on your fringing with a pair of ruched boots underneath.

Style Notes: Leopard-printed outerwear might be standout, but the muted colours of the spots give it a timeless quality. Stop your look from becoming OTT by styling it with some suede knee boots—the soft texture will blend beautifully with fluffy outerwear.

Style Notes: Quilted coats are a hot ticket item for autumn, and are subsequently selling out fast. Enhance the practical aesthetic with a pair of flat boots and you’ll be ready for anything the elements throw at you.
